Welcome. I'm new as well, but this 3rd gen isn't my first toyota. My daily is a 14 Corolla S and i had an 01 camry with almost 300k before i sold it

I just sold my built 04 Rubicon.....
Then traded our 92 ZJ for the 4runner.
So very different to own a stocker. :hiding:

I don't have a lot of experience with later model Toyota's, but you will probably find they are so much better built than most all American cars. Kinda sad. People also give me a look of disapproval when I tell them I won't put anything made in China on my vehicles. These days made in USA - is- Made in China.

I've been a GM guy since the 1970's but gave up on their cars in the 1990's.
- their overall styling was nothing special, for a few decades
- and build quality took a dive, and since I drive used...this lead me to Nissan
- closing down North American assembly plants, starting in 1984 and outsourcing to China, killed brand loyalty
- still have a 1998 Chev. Silverado 4x4, while the new GMC trucks are fugly
- so my 3.4 ton truck has been reserved to a spare vehicle, for hauling only...ever since I acquired my Gen3 4Runner
My first experience of Japan quality, was outstanding:
- was a used 1986 Nissan Pathfinder (full truck frame), that we enjoyed for 14 years
- wife first, next Dad and finally son's daily driver in HS...the old 4x4 Pathfinder, was a tank in snow
- followed up with a Nissan Maxima & another 300,000 Km trouble free
But the used Toyota brand never fell into my lap...to many owners like to keep them, I suppose.
Well 2 years ago, we wanted to replace wife's Volvo v70 wagon, with a 4x4 Toyota SUV....now brand loyal !!
- found a mint doctors vehicle...2008 RAV4 Limited, v6 4x4 with 89,xxx Km...a 269 HP rocket
(2 years later and 60,000 Km added...only repair was a $100 rear axle stabilizer link plus 1/2 hour garage labor)
- 6 months later, Dad got a mint-garaged kept 2000 4Runner SR5 v6 4x4 with 89,000 one owner miles (129,6xx Km)
(7,000 Km in last year & hasn't used a drop of oil)
- soon our son was shopping for a luxury SUV (for work) and him & I negotiated a killer deal (13.3% off MSRP) on a new
2015 Lexus RX350, v6 AWD
^^ All 3 Toyota's in black, another 1st here...and I've been driving for close to 45 years.

My 99 is my first toyota as well, always had german cars other than a miata and a lotus back in the day. I'm also very impressed with the quality of it, not a lot of BMWs would still drive so well at 177k.

I might as well throw in my $.02. Other than a 1982 Datsun that was a piece of garbage, I've always owned American. Then last year I decided it was time to trade in my 2006 Buick Lucerne. Went to the Buick dealer and couldn't find anything I liked. Also, the dealer wouldn't give me anything for my trade-in. I thought my car, with 30,000 mi. and perfect condition would be worth something. Then my son bought a new 2016 Toyota pick-up. One day he was at the dealer for service and he found a 2014 4Runner SR5 had just been turned in from a lease. He called me and said to come out and check it out. So I did! And I drove it home! I've had this vehicle for a year now and have no complaints. One question, do we call these things cars or trucks?
