I too just recently purchased new 2016 4Runner 4.0. Only got the SR5 cause price was already plenty and i'm 23 so its going to get its share of young,dumb abuse. Really enjoy it so far and its my first Toyota I've owned. My previous trucks were 2000 Ford Ranger XLT 3.0 v6 and a 2003 Nissan Frontier XE 3.3 v6. Ranger was my truck in high school from age 18-22 and my Nissan was a extra truck i picked up because the price and availability was a score. Sold my ranger and about to sell my Nissan and finally be alone with my new babe, the Runner. Stoaked i made the decision and purchased it because here in Hawaii it pays to have a reliable vehicle that you can go off road rambling lava fields and down to the beach with ease. Really glad i have jumped to a Toyota.

Just picked up my first 4Runner

I know I mentioned it before, but was again impressed. Last night while I was cruising down a stretch of suburban hill with no other traffic, saw flashing lights ahead, so instinctively jabbed the brakes and checked my speed. The transmission downshifted, I continued down the long hill, again gave the brakes a firm but brief tap and sure enough, another down shift. I have never had a vehicle with this feature before but it just makes logical sense. My wife will appreciate it because I never ride the brakes down a hill but she hates it when I periodically pump them, so the automated gearing down is great.
No plans at this point. My first 4x4 in 39 years of driving, so just enjoying being able to pull away from a light or start up a steep hill in the rain without the front wheels spinning. Will make an effort to go find some snow this winter to exercise the H4L and L4L.
