My FJ - Moog 'Tall' Spring lift / a comedy of errors

I dont understand why you tried to do anything involving the spring compressors while things were installed on the vehicle. Remove the entire strut/spring. Compress, remove top nut. Compress new springs and install top nut. I installed the top mount first, loosely, then the bottom was too long so I used a pry bar under the bottom shock mount and pryed up into the mount. I might have had someone stand on the wheel end to bring down more.

You don't need someone to stand on the wheel side to get the control arm down. All ya need is to remove the 4 bolts under the LBJ and the control arm will drop right down. Easy peasy to get the eyebolt in. OP, that sucks you got the shock perch upside down. I've seen tons of people do that.

No worries - I'm just glad that someone caught it so that I can rectify the situation.

I'll get it all buttoned up tomorrow morning before work hopefully. All I'll need to do after that is press in some new bushings on the bottom on the rear Bilsteins and i'll be done

I have new top hats and springs and was trying to put struts together outside of the vehicle to just swap them out.

To add insult to injury with the entire situation and comedy of errors, I stripped two lugs trying to get the wheels off.

I actually broke one of them off.

I'm taking it in tomorrow morning early to a local shop so want this to get taken care of sooner than later

So I took the Runner in to get the lugs replaced yesterday as I wasn't going to even touch that - they told me it was a real PITA. IMHO this was a good job to leave to professionals and save myself some grief.

:smash:

Anyways, thanks to AZPartsGuy I got the improperly installed springs off and installed them correctly. With the Moog 'tall' springs in, the front sits about an inch, inch and a half lower than the stock springs installed incorrectly.

it was sitting at 37.5" and now it's sitting at 36 - 36.5" - also im sure it will settle a bit.

Which, honestly is perfect as it was just too high at ~37". Wife was complainin' and the camber was slightly off.

It's good now

I still need to get the rear Bilstiens in, but I doubt that will effect the ride height much

On the list next are to replace the hopelessly cracked rubber brakelines up front and paint the wheels...

Sorry if I missed it in your post, but which perch (from the lowest one) are you using? I have the exact same parts coming this week.
