my idler bearing replacement thread

Just did this a couple weeks ago, so I figured I'd post a thread on it since I took some pics along the way.

Background - took a look at the drive belt and noticed uneven wear, so I removed the tension and checked a couple of the idlers. Sure enough they were loose, not a ton but a little. Then I read a few of the threads here and decided to get it done. Not wanting to buy the whole idlers, I got the bearings and bushings and pressed the old ones out and the new ones in.

Here are the bearings with the bushings I got. I had to grind down the bushings because they were a little too long.

Note - I couldn't find any bushings that were the correct length (13 mm) so I had to grind them down a little. I got an extra one too.

one thing I forgot - I had our machine shop at work make me a round cylinder to press the new bearings in. It was just a little less in diameter then the bearings. You don't want to press on the inner race.

I take it there was no luck sourcing the correct bearing? Sure looks like a bastard size with that small bore. Wondering where Toyota sources them....

Did you ream the bushing after the press fit into ball bearing?

no. I was not able to find the bearing anywhere. Special size used (only by?) Toyota.

I didn't ream the bushing. It had the proper ID.

The tensioner is about 60 - 70 bucks and the idlers are about $30 - 40 depending on which ones you get. This is from Rockauto.com. The only thing is with the tensioner, you have to buy the whole tensioner, you can't just get the pulley.
