My New Toy!

Well, the tires didn't go on the truck as I planned.... looks like they are a little too wide, and rub on the upper control arms. I've ordered a set of Spidertrax spacers, and will be intalling those when they come in.

In the mean time... here's a teaser pic of the new rubber!

Well... spacers aren't in yet... so I decided to finish my stereo install, and set it up with a usb port hidden in the glove box.

I took some pics of the process.... it's pretty simple... just cut a hole in the back of the glove box, the same dimensions as the port. Then I wrapped the back part of the port with electrical tape, just to give me something to keep it from pulling through. Then I used Contact cement to lock it in place in the glove box.

Looks a little ghetto from the back... but looks decent in the glove box... and keeps the center console looking stealthy, without having all kinds of wires all over the place.

I also pre-wired the stereo with 2 video cables. I'm hoping to get 2 monitors for the headrests, so my kids can watch movies when we're on long trips...

My 2 kidlets decided to hang out with dad while I did the install....

Got a little present in the mail today! Making an appointment to get my tires installed next Friday!

Well the spacers were installed, along with the new Tires! They are 285 70 R17 Goodyear Wrangler Territories. Good tires... and paid $1100.00 installed for them.

Had to trim some of plastic fender liner to clear them... but all is good.

Did an oil change on it today too.... Thought it looked good in the driveway.... took a mandatory "walking away shot"...

Loaded up the Taco, and took my girls fishing today...

Picked up an OEM shift knob from a newer Tacoma.... much nicer than the stock one, and not as flashy as the one I bought the first time...

Much better Fightman. I had a cheap Indonesian shifter on my 5spd Acura which broke in rush hour traffic so I had to shift with just the shaft. Not fun.

So... just an update.... the Taco went in for a Campaign frame inspection this week.... turns out they want to replace the frame on my Tacoma. :/

I didn't think it was that rusty.... I thought it was in good shape when I bought it... and have been treating it with oil since I bought it a couple of years ago.

That being said, it's a common issue up here in the North East, as road maintenance crews use road salt liberally to melt the ice off the roads. Toyota's just don't fair well in the rust belt.... I guess the steel just isn't made for these conditions.

That being said, there are preventative measures, and in this case, I guess I missed a spot when I did my oil coating treatments. In this case, Toyota is stepping up, and remedying this issue...

I have to ask how the Tundra search is coming, or has that been put on the back burner for awhile?

On the backburner for now.... the boss has been mandated to allow us to use a company vehicle to travel in and out of camp with, so I don't need the truck just yet.

I'm sitting on a wad of cash right now, calling up a bodyshop tomorrow to schedule the 4Runner for it's fender replacement/re-paint.... my old girl is still in good shape... so gonna keep driving her for a while.

In the meantime, I'm going to use the money I would have spent on the down payment, to fix my construction zone of a house... lol!

It is good you have a wad of cash to sit on. Mine usually goes into tools and boats, never to be seen again.

Don't worry folks.... Mean Green gets the treatment next weekend (weather pending), although she still has a mashed fender I have to contend with. Ordering that up this week, and hoping to install it once it's in. Might install a whip antenna while I'm in there.... may as well right?
