My Pioneer AVH-X3500BHS Head Unit Installation

I just finished installing my Pioneer AVH-X3500 this weekend and it was a piece of cake thanks to all the useful info on this forum. I did all the wiring before the installation, and I kept the Crutchfield install guide on my ipad in the car as I took apart the console. It took me about 3 hours start to finish because I never installed a stereo before and I also took the opportunity to clean out all the crap that has accumulated under the console trim over the years. I will post up some pics later on I took a few.

As for the parking break bypass I ended up using a relay which took about 5 mins to hook up and was less than 10 bux for all the parts.

Everything looks and works great. Thanks for all the pics and notes! Took me a couple of weeks to build some confidence and do it myself for the first time.

Does anyone know where the factory aux input shows up on the original harness? The one the leads into the center arm rest console?

Also does anyone know if using an iPod with 30pin to USB, does the audio come thru the 30 pin or do I still need to use the headphone out of he iPod into aux in?

I got all my parts on amazon.
The y splitter is Metra 40-UV43 Male to Female Motorola Antenna Cable.

Since the remaining antenna connection is smaller than the y splitter, this adapter is needed: Scosche Mda-B Micro/Delco Antenna Adapter Tip

Dash kit I got can also be found on amazon and is the same one used in the OP:

i installed mine last week, it was cake (although i didnt install the ebrake cable since i never watch movies on this thing). got XM situated but ordered the wrong fit kit so it looks like ass right now. Waiting on my new fit kit to come in so i can take everything out again and re-do it.
I also installed the smokers package compartment next to the shifter selector since it gives you an extra 12v outlet, that was cake and it was pre-wired.
There are a lot of unnecessary cables on the aswc-1 that i need to trim out since it feels like theres a big ass bulk of cables behind the head unit.
Question, how do you wire the factory AUX (the one that is inside the center console) to the headunit? I would like to keep that stock option available but i have no clue on how to do it.

maybe for HD radio? All I know is when i had the stock scion radio in, the reception on it was incredible. I don't listen to radio much now a days, so I don't even bother with the second antenna. Just hook up the main one and it works fine.

i dont think thats a second antenna, i believe that is the AUX in for the AUX plug inside the center console (being that there is no other location for that to be plugged into).

Has anyone tried the Urban 4runner dash bezel with your DDIN headunits? I just ordered a cheap Pioneer (AVH x3800) and the Urban 4runner dash bezel as it seems to look pretty fair IMO...Just curious if anyone has a photo of something similar...?

Dumb question - I know some folks install rocker switches to allow easy on/off access of a parking brake bypass.

I bought this switch: Dorman/Rocker Switch SB85916 - Read Reviews on Dorman #SB85916

It's three prong and I understand the three wires to be:
Ground (black)
Parking Brake (light green)
12V power (red, yes? Also assume this is to light the LED)

The dumb question is this. Can't I attach the ground and 12V power to ANY black and red wire? I saw one person describe it as using the wires from the radio unit. But depending on where I install the switch, those wires may not be convenient to access, meaning I would have to run separate wires back through the console and dash up to the head unit.

Thanks in advance for any help. I hope that description made sense.

Question. I just had a Pioneer AVH-X3800BHS installed into my 4Runner.

I noticed that the sound dips out or clicks around every 20 seconds or so. It happens in all modes, Radio, DVD, IPOD, Spotify etc....

Also I noticed that when it happens, the BlueTooth icon blinks ... Has anyone seen or experienced this?

I already called the installer and plan on having him look later in the week but wanted to throw it out there to the forums.

My issue turned out to be a bad PAC TR-7 (video bypass). swapped it out and all is well. Wanted to share in case anyone experiences similar issue

Hi. I just installed this same unit Pioneer AVH-X3800BHS and it works great. Sound is really nice except when I turn up the volume past about 18 on the number sound scale (not sure where that is maybe 1/2 max volume).

Tried different sources radio, CD, DVD...same result. Sounds really good at lower volumes but as I turn up the volume to around 18 the sound gets very distorted and gets worse if I turn it up more.

Any idea what might be happening here? Is that a speaker issue or bad headunit ?

Just a quick follow up to the previous post.. I faded speakers all the way to rear and was able to turn up volume twice as much with very little distortion. I then faded back to the front speakers and they were very distorted and barely listenable, crackly, etc.

Faded left and right on the front sounds the same from each speaker pretty distorted. Then I fade to the rear speakers and they sound fine. What's going on.

Since I'm the only one replying to my questions--just to advise i found the problem. One of the speaker wires on the harness was somehow poking thru the soldered and tape wrapped connection and contacting another wire or ground. Using multimeter I stumbled upon two speaker wires having continuity with each other when they should obviously be separate. No idea how that happened. I was about to replace radio, speakers, etc. completely stumped.

Anyway all is good now and radio sounds wonderful.

Thats why i like heat shrink. Sometimes ill even tape first and heat shrink second to be sure nothing will poke through if i have a sharp solder joint.
