My Runners wiring to a Ranger bass boat?

OK now I need some advice. I have a Ranger bass boat and when I towed in with my 03Runner I blew some electronic part in the Runner. Something about my 5pin boat plug causing issues with reverse/TRC-VSC circiuts and Toyota's 7-pin/4-pin capabilities. What do I do to not make it go heywire again? My Rangers 5-pin is plugged into a convertr harness that ends with a 7-pin, that plugs right into my Runners 7-pin, so what's wrong with this picture?

From what I understand, the 5-pin supports a trailer brake circuit in addition to conventional trailer lighting. Sounds like the adapter harness may not be compatable OR the 4Runner is dis-abling VSC due to trailer brakes. Maybe it is suppose to be this way??? Toyota dealer may can answer that.

Thanks Burt, I am still checing into this. My GMC 2500HD has been pulling same boat with same wiring hook-up, but my Runner and a friends Tundra has had the exact same issue. Reverse light comes on when driving and VCS/TRC off lights come on. I wonder if my Runner needs an electronic brake controller installed? I'll figure it out, hopefully. David
