Hi there- brand new to the forum and am looking for some good advice from all the gear heads and t4r fanatics as my 99 Limited 4WD approaches 200K miles.
I'm the second owner of this vehicle and purchased it with 142K miles from a Toyota dealership in town approx 4yrs ago.
At 160K Miles I had the following done by a couple of local Toyota experts running their own shop in Knoxville, TN (United Auto on Western Ave).
Great Honest guys who I trusted completely. We ran down the punch list together and this is what they recommended.
Timing Belt Changed
Water Pump Changed
Transmission Fluid Drained/Replaced with new filter installed (my call on the new filter)
Serpentine Belts Changed
Rear Diff Serviced
Transfer Case Checked (OK)
New Set of Tires
Front Brakes and Rotors Replaced
Here is my dilemma: I'm sitting at 195K miles, and my T4R is in need of my next round of service, plus some things I know aren't right but my trusty mechanic friends have since closed shop. Personal tragedy, bad economy, and being too honest (inexpensive) all played a role in closing shop.
My ride has some issues that need addressing oil spots in the driveway, brake light comes on arbitrarily, etc. but I have no clue how to prepare myself to engage a whole new service team. Will obviously have to prioritize between the must dos and should dos.
Can someone shoot me a list of what I should be looking at myself before walking into a service shop? I know maintaining cars isn't cheap, just want to be taken for a ride, or better yet anyone know where I can find the best, most trust worthy independent Toyota expert in Knoxville, TN?
