It looks like that but doesn't say check your surroundings... at least mine doesn't. I think the 05 NAVs say that. Hmmmm... I bet it would still work. Good find.

The "Check your Sourrounding" is only there when the backup camera is in operation. Are you saying your does not say that or do you not have the backup camera?

Mine doesnt say it when I put it in reverse..... yes I have the camera.

My understanding is that the toyota solara XM unit is a first generation XM unit. Does the unit display more than 8 characters in the song? How many presets do you get?

In addition, I like some of the new features of the stand alone.

Wow, is that what the actual 4Runner navigation system screen looks like???

My Camry unit's screen doesn't look like that at all, it looks just like the other picture.

Yeah, that's interesting. That unit is totally different. Can you change the colors? Also there is no SAT button which makes me wonder if you can add the Sat option. I've seen the 04 Factory NAV and it looks just like mine......

The graphics of your NAV unit look very similar to my 2002 IS300 navigation unit. Perhaps you have an older version of the NAV hardware.

I am curious to see some pictures of a 2005 4Runner NAV unit.

Noobie Question...

You guys have really piqued my interest! I just bought an 05 SR5 with the single CD AM/FM/Cass player. Can I purchase the NAV system and install it in place of the radio I currently have? Including the camera and XM options? I've just got to have this! Thanks!

Yes, that's what I did... but without the rear camera or the XM radio--but you can include that stuff if you wish.

Well those pics are of my factory 04 NAV unit. I bought her new in Feb of 04 and I believe her production date is Dec of 03. I have not found a place to change the interface colors in the menus. I am surprised that my color scheme surprises so many people. I have to assume my unit is the same as all of the other T4R factory installed units, which means the board must have seen pics of the interface before? I also wonder if the interface colors are on the DVD in some way?

Today I will also FINALLY take those pics of the back of the cubby as promised. It was VERY easy to do this. The Terk kit comes with a mounting base, all I did was estimate how low I could out it and still have the cubby open all the way and not have the unit interfere when I put large drinks in. Where I have mine and how it is angles seems perfect. It faces up to the point that when I look down on it the screen is perfectly flat to my eyes for best viewing. It also does not intrude one but on the cup holders.

My next audio project will be to install the MB Quart separates (5.25/tweeter), & JL Audio 6

It's not just the colors, but the style itself.... it looks much different than my self-installed '05 Camry navigation system. Have you seen the Lexus navigation systems? That's exactly how the interface looks on my navigation system.

I remember reading something on OEM.com about the grey "NAVI" button in the lower left hand corner being an older version of the navigation system. Maybe you have it because yours is a very early '04 model??

The control box is mounted under the steering wheel.

Hey, I have a USASPEC aux interface and the Terk Commander on order. I like your install. For stealth reasons, I am going to mount the display in the cubby, facing up so that I can hide it away when parked.

How did you mount the brain of the Terk under the steering wheel? It is visible or what? Do you know if it would have fit behind the cubby, wedged in there?

Also, where did you get your 12v, 12v ACC, and ground from.

Looks great Duc! I'm thinking about doing something very similar with my Roady2. When I popped out the holder I was suprised that theres a solid piece behind it. Did you route wires through this? What's behind it? I was going to drill a hole so I could run the wire to the fuse box and the antenna to the roof, but I was afraid there was something back there I could hurt.

As for the brain, mine is under my steering wheel, out of sight. You might be able to put it behind the A/C controls, I put my bluetooth brain there.

Terk XM; Low Volume and Hiss

I have the same XM unit with the FM Modulator. I'm experiencing some intermittent hiss and signal "break through" because I cant find an FM frequency for the modulator that doesn't have some kind of a signal on it. The reason for this, I think, is because of the Diversity FM Antenna Amplifier in our T4Rs. It's simply the best antenna/amp combination I've ever used. It "sucks" FM signals in that I never knew existed before. Did you guys get that? We do have an FM Amplifier stock installed you know. It's probably an RF amp which means it's got a flat and wide response across the entire VHF spectrum for broadcast FM and I'm guessing it's boosting the signal at least 6 to 10dB.

Anyway, I'm seriously considering moving the FM Modulator in my truck. What do you think the result would be if you put the modulator between the rear window antennas and the FM signal Amplifier instead of between the amplifier and the head unit? That way, the amplifier would not only boost FM radio signals when the XM unit is off; it would also boost the XM Signal when the XM receiver is on. I think this mod would solve a lot of volume, hiss, and break-through issues for Terk XM users.

Okay, that'll be 2 cents please!

The surround button on mine radically improves the sound of my systems. I believe it is a "fake" surround sound equalization. I bet they got rid of it because I just leave mine on all the time. I bet they just made the newer ones sound like mine and removed the button.
