On that climb up lift #9, I discovered that climbing skins work better than snowshoes on slopes and remember discussing it with a young gal and others at the base lodge to the lift. That was in '92 as I remember. I was thirty two. It would definitely be hard for me today. It's funny, but although I did work for my childhood friend renting Jeeps, I only took one Jeep trip and that was to Tomboy with a gal that sold real estate there. We used a Land Rover. I did much more skiing, hiking, jogging and climbing when I lived there. I never got into technical climbing, but did do some "scrambling". There are many fascinating places you can access only by trail or rock face in that area of the country. I just watched a video I have of two famous lady rock climbers working out of Moab. I spent a lot of time in the N.P.'s there, again hiking and climbing. These Gals make me ashamed that I say I was a climber.

Let me add a caveat. The 4 wheeling out there can be exceptionally dangerous for all sorts of reasons. Many of these switchback roads look over drops of thousands of feet. Telluride Outfitters was the name of our company. The owners sold it to someone else who now do more "tame" type of things. We couldn't find anyone but Lloyds of London to insure the jeeps. I'll spare you the gory details.
