Mystery squeak, only when turning left

Making this post hoping either someone else has had this issue and knows the fix, and if not, to document troubleshooting of this issue.

T4R in question is a 2019 TRD ORP KDSS with 35k miles, bone stock except for aftermarket wheels with stock size Nitto RG.

For about the last 6 months I’ve been hearing a “rubbery” type squeak ONLY when turning left, even slightly. To clarify more, it seems to happen during weight transfer to the passenger side, which of course happens when turning left, but occasionally happens with a right sloped straight road. Very noticeable about 20-40mph, can’t be heard on freeway. I drive a 6 mile canyon road every day as part of my commute so it’s repeatable every day.

First dealership was “unable to replicate”, which I anticipated because they wouldn’t do a ride along with me. Second dealer was happy to have a tech ride along and he clearly heard it from the passenger seat and while driving.

Currently on day 3 in the shop, they have opened a case with Toyota. So far the wheels/tires were swapped to stock take offs to eliminate them, which of course it wasn’t. Next, control arm bushings we’re inspected and found to be in good condition. Now Toyota is sending a spring plate or spacer (service advisor wasn’t very clear) which will be there in 2 days.

I’ll update as things progress!

Maybe try placing a liberal amount of heavy grease on the hood latch.

check the rubber stoppers for the hood. they may need to be extended. push down on the hood to see if you can replicate it.

Stopped by the dealer today to grab something out of the car. Pushed on the hood and didn’t hear anything. Oh well, would have been nice.

Didn’t have any grease with me, will mention to the service advisor.

So many have had that squeak upon left turn. It will sound like it's coming from down near front suspension and you would never guess is it the hood. Most the time it is an easy fix by greasing the hood latch, and as other poster suggested, raising the rubber bumpers the hood rests on with a few twists of the bumpers (mine needed to be twisted a bit higher) with your hand to stabilize the hood.

Thanks, I told the dealer to look at both of those potential causes, they are still stumped as of now.

Out tie rod end? I just replaced both of mine due to squeaking. The squeaking was only replicated after driving long distances or heavy articulation, but I had a leaking boot.

Sorry for the delayed update on this. My T4R was in the shop for nearly 2 weeks and they suddenly declared it fixed after replacing a rear spring, which they indicated was the source based on chassis ears.

I drove it home and it squeaked like normal, no change so I’m not sure what noise the rear spring was supposedly making.

Long story short, a couple of posters above nailed it, it was the hood bumpers. 3 turns and it’s been totally quiet ever since.

every so often it will come back, so far like every year or so... just have to keep adjusting the rubber bumpers. it is a super easy fix though.

I think I may have this issue too. Been driving me nuts! Nice relief coming from an Xterra that didn’t have adjustable hood bumpers. I replaced them a few times in the life of the truck.
