N8NAZ 2000 SR5 Build Thread

Did he end up adding any internal bracing in that bumper? It looks quite barren. I ask because that bumper is on my short list currently.

Yes..the bumper is braced. I attempted to install a recessed rear flood light, however the entire length of the bumper is braced, so it couldn't be done.

Ill get underneath and take some pics for you once the sun goes down.

Not sure where you are in the valley, but I live in Gilbert, but will be up at PVCC tomorrow also, so if you would like to see for yourself, just PM me

If you're not busy tonight, Arizona 4Runners is having their monthly meet behind Red Robin off of Talking Stick Way in Scottsdale tonight at 6:30. I'd like to take a look at it if you don't mind.

Also, I am referring to the front and not the rear bumper.

I'll use the list from one of my earliest posts on this thread to catch you up on how we got here today.

Suspension:

Bilstein 5100's
OME 2881 Front
OME 2966 Rear
(approx. 2.5" lift)

Tires/Wheels
265/70 R17 Yokohama Geolanders on 17x8.5 Tracker 2's

My original suspension was amazing! it worked fantastic, however as I kept adding weight to the truck, it became apparent I needed to revisit it. Another issue I found out about was shock fade...so I considered that too.

I ended up with a Toytech setup...I don't have the receipt in front of me, but I ended up with reservoirs on all 4 corners, Sequoia springs, and upper control arms.

For some reason, I am having trouble loading a couple pics of the suspension so if out really want to see them Ill try later.

I've been through a couple if sets of tires. the Yokes did great, and I am considering putting a set on my 2024 TRD Off Road. Currently Im running Nitto Ridge Grapplers...still 265/70 17's

For the wheels, I've always liked the steely look so I ended up with a set of Fifteen52' Analog's in the Peak Gray color.

Id like to insert a quick plug for Fifteen52's customer service here. I purchased a set of rims, but after almost 2 years, the coloring started discoloring (fading?) in spots. originally I thought it may be something I could polish out with some compound, but nothing I did made a difference. I contacted Fifteen52, and even though I believe I was just outside of the warranty, they replaced the entire set for free.

Exhaust
Flowmaster 40 ....Still

Exterior

Trail Gear 2 roof rack-

I had added a couple of old Pelican cases for storage and had enough room left to haul another spare tire up top if I wanted. During this time, I had heard of the Alcan Highway, and was hearing that a couple of spare tires were not a bad idea.

Anyway...I ran this setup for awhile, but because most of my driving was on freeways, I decided to opt for a lower height basket to cut down on wind resistance, and get some MPG back.

The bottom pics are what I'm running right now. the basket is from Baja Rack, and I opted for the spare tire mount because I ended up removing the swing out tire carrier on the rear bumper to save weight. The cases are Plano rifle cases, and I'm pretty sure that some of you are wondering about that big hoop with the KC lights....AFTER I mentioned I was looking to reduce drag.

Ok... It looked so cool, I had to. but also, I had made the decision to have this as a secondary vehicle, so during this time, the truck was rarely on the highway, and mainly used to fun.

I don't have pics readily available, but I've got awning mounts and have both the 6ft and 8ft ARB awnings I can mount on the drivers side including the 8x8 room that goes under the awning in the event I want to use that camping. I might throw in some pics of the rig when we had it all set up camping. Let me know if that interests you.

RPM FAB plate front bumper
RPM FAB rear plate bumper with locking pin open/closed
-driver side swing out rear tire carrier
-passenger side ladder w/removable Rotopax mount
RPM FAB sliders

Around mid 2023, I ended up divorcing, anf my 4Runner was pulled back into being a daily driver. I removed the KC lights up front along with the mount, and in order to save weiht, I removed the dual swing gates. originally I was going to hang on to them. but the ladder side had gotten all boogered up and Im pretty sure it wasnt an easy fix, so those parts went away. saved a lot of weight, so am ok with them being gone.

in 2019, I hooked up with RPM Fab again because they wanted to design some skid plates so they used my truck again. This was right at the end of their time in business, and luckily, I got all 3 pieces of the skid plates before they closed their doors. It was pretty cool having them on because they were the only set they made so no one else had them. Remember weight? after running them for a couple of years, I pulled them off with the intent of ordering some aluminum ones, but never did. I weighed them and all 3 pieces came in over 80lbs, so I just traded them for some stock ones and called it good.

One thing I didn't see coming in the early years was how much I would like the Toyota cement gray color. I have been doing business with a body shop in the east valley for 30 years, and they gave me a wonderful deal on a respray, so I changed the color. I had already had my expedition trailer paint cement gray so it was cool when the mostly matched.

Well...that is most of the catching up. If anyone has any questions, I would be happy to answer, and if you want any specific pics, let me know. I just put the truck on Craigslist, so hopefully it'll move along at some point.

I recently acquired a white 2024 Off Road Premium that I am eager to get some work done to!!
