Name this part!

Anyone know the name for this spring that controls the side slop of the shifter. Just installed my URD short Shifter and it's awesome. But I need a new whatever this is called on the driver's side. Passenger side still has spring load. But I'll get both for good measure.

Where can I obtain said mystery part?

Also ordered the new shifter seat from Marlin. Should really firm up this sloppy old girl.

Thanks again guys

going from neutral to the left (1st,2nd) SHOULD be softer than going to the right (5th,reverse)
if that's what you are taking about...

its so when you go from 2nd to 3rd you don't accidentally go to 5th. :)

So, with it sitting dead center between 3rd and 4th, pull driver and it has spring tension, pull passenger and nothing at all. It will chill over by 5th and Reverse.

I'll look up that select return spring. Thanks.

So far this is what I've found

Now to see how to remove them. Seems like they "simply" just screw out.

I couldn't wait! I took them out. Bit of a finger pincher but they came out pretty easy.

Pics are backward but the one on the left is the passenger side, hence the spring tensioner when the shifter is pulled driver. The driver's side is locked down, hence lots of slack when pushed passenger. These are below the pivot point, if that helps. I'd just get a new one or try to fix this one, but why does it look like it may have intensionaly been scored to keep it back? Is that factory? Seems too.... perfect.

So at least on a better note, I can say that the URD SS has reduced my long throw from 5.5" to around 3". Still have some adjustment and trimming to do. Forward throws now contact the center console. Remember, this was an auto and I cut the console myself, this product is meant for a factory 5spd. At least I just removed the old CB and can now use that space for my Boost gauge (which is in the way of making the cut on the console) to the empty space below the ash tray. I guess since I have the room I'll include matching Oil Pressure and Volts.

Apparently no one is looking at this at 1am..... I figured it out.

Not a factory notch. I gently worked the notch off the piston with a small flathead and it popped right out. Re-installed both pieces and it's nice and tight!

Something must have come loose in this transmission or someone did it on purpose. Don't know why they would but now it's tight both right and left.

Time for me to treat myself to a tall glass of Jameson.

MStudt: Thanks for the heads up on the name. The exploded parts diagram I found with that helped get me going in the right direction. :usa2:
