I'm just about done designing a bracket that lets me mount my iPad mini directly in front of the current stereo header - snaps in and out with magnets, and if your iPad mini has mobile data (or you share data from your phone), it's perfect as a poor-man's Carplay upgrade - lets you stream music or run maps/waze. I'll upload some pictures later this week - if anyone's interested in building one of these for themselves, let me know.....
