Need a new rear bumper (Tire Carrier maybe?)

Driving out of school today and go figure got rear-ended by some student who dosent know how to drive.

Perfect opportunity to get a new rear bumper.. but what Im really interested are the tire carrier types. Ive done some research and learned that CBI are highly praised and seem extremely well built. But are there any other options?

Thanks All-
Jacob

The only options out there currently are CBI and 4x4 Labs (which may be custom)

I would get the CBI.

Just looked at the 4x4 Labs and I agree with the CBI Statement, hard to disagree with a product a lot of people love on the forums.

Want something like this?Trail Armor
anyway it sux being rear ended. I got rear ended by some old lady and her B-itch of a grand daughter that was in highschool. no damage to my truck as she hit the hitch ball. did you have one?:happens:

No hitch ball. Ironically was getting one in a week or so, he dented my bumper and my tailgate badly, so those need to be replaced. It wrecked the entire front of his car though. Toyota's ftw.

I looked at he trial armor stuff, didn't like it as much as the CBI- but you pay for what you get. Thanks for the idea wouldn't have even thought of them.

So how much is there insurance going to give you? The CBI with options is like $2K and the stock one is no where close to that. I was out on a trail and put a dent in my front bumper trying to run over an old stump, the stump won, pushed in the drivers side corner. Back to the point, the stock one was going to be $650 painted and installed and the Shrockworks that should be here in about 2 weeks, maybe less, was $1500 with the fog lights.

I sadly realize the price different between the stock and CBI, but you get what you pay for. I haven't taken it in yet to get estimates, but I think we are leaving the insurance companies out of it.

yea that's the best way to handle it, I totally agree that you get what you pay for, the CBI will look great, it may look a little off with rear armor before front armor, I understand the circumstance but you just don't see a lot of 4R with rear and not a front bumper already

So a student hit you eh? So is the sudent's Mommy and Daddy (M&D) paying for the damage to your vehicle? (since students usually do not have a lot of money) Does M&D know just how much a new bumper, tailgate, and hitch cost? Then there is the labor for body and paint work. This repair could end up costing a LOT more than the M&D of the student think.

You do realize that YOU could be left holding the bag for the cost of the repairs if M&D suddenly "forget" their kid had an accident and refuse to pay, right???? How do you think the insurance companies will react if you get them involved once M&D have their memory lapse??? That will get UGLY for BOTH of you.

I am not a big fan of insurance companies but in some cases they may be the best way to go. BTW, you do realize that some insurance companies do DROP coverage for people who fail to report accidents? That could get UGLY for YOU if your insurance company drops YOU. If there is a police report on this accident (since the other car was totaled and/or had to be towed) there is a remote possibility that the insurance companies may find out anyway. What if the body shop screws up and sends paperwork for your repair to your insurance company even though they were not supposed to?

Yes, I understand about trying to cut the other driver a break.
In my eyes you have more potential downside risk in this situation if you do not involve the insurance companies. Only you can decide if it is worth taking the risk.

Following up on Charlier's concern, do you live in a state that mandatory reporting requirements? For example in California I believe an accident has to be reported if it involves a certain dollar amount of damage, and every accident has to be reported if there is injury to a person. Replacing your bumper isn't exactly goint to cost peanuts. If your state has mandatory reporting requrements based on repair cost, it's likely you're already over.

Off topic: but I run this 8in drop hitch out back just for a little protection. I figure with 4 inches of lift any small car would slide right under if I did not have something hanging down.

Is it bad that i secretly hope someone smashes up my front end without me being hurt so I can get a shrockworks bumper? Should keep my thoughts to myself!
