need advice for my lift

hey guys/gals...im in need of some advice and opinions on which setup to go with and pros/cons as well. Ive read and read through a LOT of the suspension/lift stickiesand have learned a ton but also come away pretty confused which route to go.

my t4r is a 2003 sport w xreas all stock except for the spidertrax i installed yesterday (look great btw). the xreas is functioning fine w no leaks but it is 11yrs old and 140k on it so i decided to replace the suspension. initially my plan wse to install daystar 2"net front and 1.5" rear spacer as that is close to my preferred lift w my 265/70/17 duratracs. I still have those spacers, although the rear would be the only one i may use with the new suspension.

my goal is to get close to a 2/1 lift with a range of 2-2.5 in the front & 1-1.5 in the rear.im planning on purchasing 5100's and using either fj springs or ome/eibachin both front and rear. here are my questions and concerns:

1) other than price what is the differences between the fj coils and aftermarket in terms on ride quality and stiffness- i do like a firm but comfortable ride plus road handling- this is my dd. if i go the fj route on the front i would need to set the 5100 to the 1.75"setting - thisshould yeild a 2-2.5 lift?? If i go ome/eibach the springs are longer therefore not require any lift from the 5100's?? Is there any advantage to using the daystar 2"net spacer instead of the shock settings? i think i read somewhere the way they load the shock is different- whats preferred?

2) for the rears- the toytec superflex is too much lift- if i use the fj coils and my daystar 1.5" spacer i will be pushing 2" iirc- again a bit too much..i could use my stock spring and ds spacer but i was hoping to replace those old springs..id rather not buy a 1"spacerbut will if thats whats needed..does ome/eibach make a spring that will work w the 5100 to achieve my desired lift of 1-1.5??

it seems crazy that ive read volumes on suspension yet still am confused...if anyone can offer any advice/opinions/experiences that would be really helpful...thnx everyone- what a great community t4r.org is...

This thread answers all of the questions that you just asked:

In the front you can you use stock, OME 884/885 or Toytec/Eibach 620 springs with the 5100 shocks. All 3 are within the operating range of the 5100 shocks. If you use stock springs you will need to preload them and use the 2.5" slot on the shock, the aftermarket springs are longer so use the lower slots on the shock.

In the rear IF you are carrying gear all the time use the OME 895 springs, BUT they are a little beefy for the 5100 shocks are the 895 spring is 40% higher rate then stock. If you are not carrying gear all the time I would suggest keeping the stock springs and using a daystar 1.5" spring spacer ($45 pair). If you decide down the you want more lift or heavier springs you can sell the rear spring spacers easy. If you want to match the front the rear Toytec - Superflex springs (15% higher rate) are a nice match to the 5100.

thanks preacher- i did find some info there i was looking for..been awhile since i saw that 1st page w all the spring options...

Ebg- thanks for the helpful advice- so looks like the ome 885 up front w the 5100's set at the zero setting will give me ~2" of lift (or the toytec/eibach)...in the rear looks like a stock spring w 1.5" daystar will give me 1.5 and using the 895e w no spacer will give me 1" w the billies

Thnx a bunch to ark_swamp and many others who have contributed so much to this board

OME 885 should yield you almost 3" front on a v6. If you only want 2-2.5" the 884 is the right one.

OME 895 & 895E are the same rate, just different lengths. If you decide down the road you need more capacity swap out the spacers for different springs.

I got my OEM FJ springs for $40+$40. 1.75 in front (@.85), 1 in rear. See my post near the end of the FJ thread for measurements & pics.

okay..thanks again - i do have a V8 so the 885 might yeild a bit less

JB40- i appreciate your input- thing that is confusing is that some people are getting 1.25" in the front w the fj's and 5100's at .85 some closer to 2"...the rear can vary as well..bit i understand why since there are several variables

-another option as you all know are the moog springs but im wondering if their quality and longevity are similar to the factory or ome/eibach/toytec springs

Moog rears don't seat. I'd never let one off the lift like that. And yeah, lots of info out there, not all of it clear. Very happy with mine, but if it were a half inch taller I'd be OK too.

I'm not a fan of the Moog springs, they aren't the same specs as OEM and there seem to be a lot of fitment issues. I think most aftermarket lift coils will give more lift than you want.

On the front, I would suggest stock coils from a Tacoma. They will probably give ~1.5" lift. Set the 5100's to the second notch and the height should be about perfect for what you're wanting. On the rear, Sway-A-Way makes a 1.5" lift coil I believe (no personal experience with these, and don't know of anyone running them). I would either do this or FJ coils with a spacer. While you're doing all this work, probably should go ahead and replace the rear coils.

I did the max preload/lift using the Bilstein 5100 adjustable on the front, and a 3/4" spacer from Jason on the rear. Looks perfect to me. But that maxed out the front in terms of getting the alignment to close within spec without aftermarket upper control arms. And after I did it, the cv boots started leaking grease which seems to be common. In hindsight I should have added the better cv boot clamps before it puked all of the grease out and I have to repack...

thnx for the reply ark...maybe those rear sway aways might be the ticket- any thoughts on the ome 895e for the rear? they claim a 1" lift... If i would get no more than 2.5 on the front then that may work for me...would the 884 exceed that??

i am curious to know how the ride would change when comparing an ome/eibach w no spacer or adjustment on the 5100's compared to using shorter springs w the .85/1.75?? the proper lift is important to me but so is performance- i assume (maybe wrongly) that the longer front (and rear for that matter) coils will give the best ride on and offroad

Anyways thanks to everyone for their time- i know im being ocd about this but i just want to get it right the first time since im no mechanic and im gonna shell out sone bucks for the install

The 884s should lift around 3" with a v6 from what I've read. I ran the 885s and got 3" lift with a v8, so the v6 would see probably 1/2" more lift with the 885s.

Regardless of lift height, the 895e coils are way too stiff for a stock weight 4runner. The Sway a way coils are your best option IMO.

All the coils in question will work length wise. The biggest impact on ride will be the spring rate. This is why I advise against the OME rear coils.

gotcha...i was under the impression the 895e coil was for a stock weight t4r but 1" lift instead of 2" for the 895

anyways thnx again to everyone for the help...
