If, for some reason, you really do want an Aspen, buy it brand new from the dealer. That way you get the (non-transferrable) lifetime warrenty.

I would like to chime in one more time. Last week a member e-mailed me and asked me about towing with my 2001 4Runner. I wrote him a few e-mails and he was all excited about getting a used 2001 4Runner to tow his pop-up which by pop-up standards is somewhat heavy.

He gave me a link to a pop-up forum and pretty much the forum talked him out of getting rid of his Dodge Caravan. The first post on page two tells him why he is making a big mistake if he gets the 4Runner. Other posts talk about how bad and unreliable the 4Runner is.

It is interesting how the other shoe is slammed on this forum. I hope the member does not mind. It is just another point of view. Also, no mention of the 4Runner is on a frame or is rear wheel drive. Anyhow, if you got the time, it is a interesting read on why the Dodge is a better vehicle.

That's not interesting, it's ignorance LOL! I don't know how those people could possibly think that towing a 23' camper with a FWD unibody Dodge minivan is better than towing it with a body on frame RWD SUV. :bash:

Of course, them talking about NASCAR shows what kind of bumpkins they are, so their opinion means nothing to me. I towed a 93 Civic hatch on a heavy ass Uhaul double axle trailer & didn't have a single problem doing it. I tow stuff for people all the time with no issues. I actually enjoy it. :biggrin2:

I looked up the Doge Caravan he has on Edmunds and it says this about a 2006 Caravan:

Base Engine Size: 3.3 liters
Base Engine Type: V6
Horsepower: 180 hp
Max Horsepower: 5200 rpm
Torque: 210 ft-lbs.
Max Torque: 4000 rpm
Maximum Towing Capacity: 2000 lbs.
Drive Type: FWD


So, if I am reading this right, the forum thinks the Caravan with a maximum towing capacity of 2,000 pounds is better at towing 3,500 pounds than the 4Runner? Maybe they have a towing package that could raise the limit? Still a front wheel drive is not supposed to tow a bunch of weight.

You guys have ALL bought up great points - in fact I emailed the salesman last night ans said give me a list or reasons I should consider the Aspen over the 4runner and as of 5:19 PM he hasn't responded - that tells me something right there.

I am taking the board's advice - keeping the 4Runner!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good choice in teams and SUVs!!!!

LOL Well it's true. Who on earth in their right mind would tow a 3500 lb trailer with a Mini Van of all things? Especially a Chrysler Mini Van, whos transmissions take a dump if you even look at them wrong and that seems to only have a 2000 lb towing capacity on top of it? That is absurd. I think those people rode the short bus in school. That's like asking whether it would be better to tow a boat or jet skis with a 4Runner or an Accord.
