Need advice on lift tires and rims..Please chime in..

if its any help i just put in the toytech 3" spacers and rear springs. i like it although i lost a little bit of ride quailty(rougher) but not to bad . also went with 285/75/16's toyo open country at's. out in mass they were the same price and have a roadhazzard where nittos dont. the toyos are working really good in lite mud and soft sand. ill try to get a pic up or a link to a pic soon

Real fast question beore I order tires. Im going with terra grappler. If I keep the stock rims can I go with 285/75/16 ? Will there be any problems ? Whats the difference between 265 and 285 ?

If I'm not mistaken 285 and 75 are measured in mm's. So 285 would be about two inches wider than 265.

I think a rim can only hold a certain size tire. I'm not sure if stock rims will hold a 285 tire.

285 would be wider and I prefer a wider tire over a skinny tire, so I guess 285 would look better to me.

What about that rim ? WOuld it work ? Would they fit on my 4runner ? I think thats the right size but want to make sure..I think im going to get it..

Sorry I can't help you more.

I do know that backspacing and offset will be the important things to look at. I'm pretty sure that this was dicussed recently, maybe a few pages back.

a 285/75/16 is a 33*11.50... a 285 should fit on a 8 inch wide rim.... people have 285's on their stock wheels, and they are 8inches wide.

285= 11.25"

Half of that difference will be on each side of the rim so the 285/75's are (.75" / 2 = .375") wider on the outside and toward the control arm on the inside.

So the 285's stick out less than half an inch more BUT they move that same distance to the upper control arm.

I run 265/75's on stock rims and mine is really close already.

I believe the stock wheels are 16"x7" also, not 16"x8" (TRD wheels)

i was told that you can not run a 285 on a stock 16x7 u need to go to a 16x8. for two resaons one is that that tire will rub and also hit the upper control arm facotry non trd wheels dont have enough backspacing. if you go to a 16x8 there is more off set and will clear. also they claim that the 285 is to wide for a 7 inch wheel when mounted and inflated.

I knew they were the thread width, but was not correct in my metric converstion.
