I'm looking to purchase a 1994 4Runner 3.0 4wd with 206k. The paint is shot but the body and interior are straight and good. It has a burt valve on #1 cylinder so it needs a top end job. Dince I'm in there I'll probably do the timing belt. With 206k should I just overhaul the entire engine? What does it cost these days to get the head work done? What's the most I should pay for the vehicle? Any opinions or insight would be appreciated. Thanks.

206K doesn't necessarily mean a worn-out 3.0. The bottom end of those engines can easily run 300K. The burnt valve is probably due to lack of maintenance - the valves are supposed to be adjusted at least every 100K miles or so, and if that's ignored and the clearances get too low, the exhaust valves will fail to close and the valves will burn.
I'd do the heads, freshen up the valves, put it back together and run it.

Sounds like a clunker to me, I wouldn't pay more then 1500 and that's generous. The 2nd gen is not rare and the 3.0 is not the best engine Toyota made its more like the black eye of all the good 4Runner engines.

I paid $400 for my 94 after a family member hosed a brake job. Currently into it for about $1100. It has 195k on it.
If you are thinking of doing an engine you could look at throwing a 3.4 in there.
