Need help and your opinion please

Im new so I don't know if im doing this right. but screw it ill find out soon enough. And again thank you in advance.

I need help just like the post says. Im not stupid or anything (I think) but I have never owned a T4R so I don't know to much about them. But I have owned and extremely love my 1999 Toy Taco for about six years and never contemplated getting anything else. I came across a guy that is willing to trade straight across for his runner. Here they are.

My truck has never been wheeling or on the trails. The furthest it ever made it off the pavement is up loggin roads to explore or search for new shooting pits.
My green 99 Tacoma 3.4L 4wd w/150k miles, extended cab. Even has the factory locker.
2in to 2.5in leveling/lift kit. 32x11.50 tires w/15in black devino rims.
Aluminum Pro-tech headache rack. step tubs. brush guard. linex bedliner.
K&N CAI. Panasonic CD w/aux. 12in MTX sub & AMP, ported box.


I have also found some pitures of the previous owner wheelin and flexxin the livin sh*t out of it.
His Silver 2000 T4R 3.4L 4wd w/150k miles
6in lift I think maybe shorter, has Old Man Emu Springs. 35in Toyos w/16in. Matte Black Raceline Renegade rims.
Has Diff Drop and there is evidence of the Diff being re-geared
is super chipped and has deckplate mod.
Flowmaster eahaust
kenwood dvd player with 10in JL audio sub and amp w/ported box


So there you go I just need some opinions and some info on possible maint. with a setup like that. thank you again

I think it would be a good move on your provided it is in as good condition as your truck.

If it's as nice as you truck, you'd be going up a year, and appears to be a nice looking better equipped 4runner. You'd be coming out smelling like a rose if a 4runner is what you want.

That's what I was thinking. Thank you for your feedback. Other than the passenger CV axle needing replacing eventually, which anyone who knows anything can do a cv an under an hour, so not worried about that. it runs just as good as my truck, if not better and is beautiful inside and out. So just little stuff to do to it and my new pavement princess will be as good as new.

Oh the reason he is getting rid of it is he is very short and quite big like my self. me= 6'2'' him=5'6'' maybe. it was very funny seeing him get in and out of it when I went to check it out. And makes for a PITA to get car seats in and out of.

If he's already done the diff drop, theres not much else to do. If the boots are tearing, there are a couple threads on stretching them. If you don't plan on offroading I'd think you would be fine with them where they are now. There are a few guys running 35s, and they offroad pretty extensively...they go through CVs like skittles. I think thats just part of wheeling with 35s.
By the way, I'd trade in a heartbeat.

I agree. That would be a nice trade as long as it has a locker in it. Something that will be nice for you is building a cargo box in the back of it for all the range stuff. Targets, ammo, cleaning gear and having a place to put parts on and out of the weather would be very nice. With CV'c.52 bucks at AutoZone and lifetime warranty, easy. There is something magical about 35's on a 4runner.

Thank you for the feed back. The deal is set Ill have the runner soon. Cant wait the thing looks and drives like a beast. The runner will definitely be a pavement princess other than logging roads.

I agree, a tool/cargo box would be pretty nice. something removable though, sense the runner would make a perfect place to crash in when we go camping up in the woods, no more need for a tent. About the cargo box do you, or anyone else, have any pictures of such a thing, that I could use for inspiration. lol

Now that you mention the locker I don't remember if it has it our not. my Tacoma has one and to tell you the truth I don't think I have ever really used it. but would be nice still.

Ya CV's are relatively cheap and with the warranty I really don't see going any other way. And replacing them is almost easier than drivin all the way to town to pick them up. I Hate Construction Work!! lol PITA :frusty:

Looks like a nice 4Runner, and your Taco looks nice too. Around here a Taco will bring about 20% more than a comparable 4Runner (I guess people want trucks more than SUVs). You'd probably come out better selling your truck and buying his, and pocket 20% cash.

To the best of my knowledge you can't "chip" a Toyota the ecu prevents that. You can however run a "piggy back" computer. Both rigs are clean I prefer a suvover a truck but that's just me.

Also, think about replacing those tires, 35's are going to be significantly more than more reasonable 31's or 32's. It also looks like you are going to slam those tires into the wheel wells when you stuff them.

When you said chipped, I thought you meant the paint job... that doesn't make me any more comfortable about it. I am highly suspicious of all those chips, and I don't think guys that really know what they are doing use them.

Maybe I'm just jaded, but this doesn't smell great to me, especially if you love your green taco.

maybe your right about the "piggy back" computer. well I saw the thing on there but like I said I was so stoked about playing with the runner I just looked it over and didn't pay to much attention to it. Not trying to argue but its on there. and like I also said before I am new and probably don't know what im talking about. you guys on here do know what your talking about so next time I check out the runner Ill take pictures and research it more

The short fat guy didn't lift it or put the 35s on it. the previous owner did. I did do a car fax and this guy has only owned the rig for a month barely. I was planning on putting 33s on it and selling the nearly brand new 35s. and FYI I test drove the thing and doesn't rub believe it or not. Not even crankin it and rollin up curbs. And like I also stated before I have no interest in wheeling it. got a family and just want an awesome toy, that is built right. when I said chipped I meant performance chipped. but so far none of the other members think it is even possible to chip a Toyota. which I personally saw what I believe to be a chip. Cant remember the brand. but its either a "G-force" or a "Super Chip" I think. I have done the research on this particular runner and it seems to be in great shape.

I actually came across the original owner on another site called car domain. The original owner who installed the lift, tires, OME springs, sound system, and did the deckplate mod as well as the ISR. With what was done, it sounds like the previous owner knew a little about what he was doing. I had my mechanic go through it as well and other than the cv and new clutch fan he said everything else checked out

LOL hey im tall and fat, 6'2'' 320-330lbs just saying the guy straight up said "I'm short and fat and hate getting in and out of the thing" his wife also stated she hated getting two car seats in and out plus a new born and two year old. Now the Tacoma for sure wouldn't be any better, especially the car seat thing. but they do have multiple other vehicles. dodge cummins, Hyundai santé fe, lexus Is250, and pretty soon a Tacoma. The guy has got money and toys. He is just trading one toy for another.

Agreed. At first glance I'd do it no questions. But you should really get a better feel for his end of the deal. He seems a little eager to run from it. Then again, everything may check out.

Also consider the fact you have 6 years of history with your rig. You know how you've treated it.

Proceed with caution.
