Need help building my "Satoshi" style grille

Well I guess I need to buy another grill and start over...but this time check to see how, or if it fits before I start my build. I feel like a bigger idiot then i did before! I guess I need to buy somewhere else besides eBay!

Looks very nice. I've never seen your truck before, very interesting. I was thinking about painting the shrouds white when I do my retro...gives me an idea.

Did you have the hood painted that black? I used plasti dip, so mine isn't glossy like yours...kinda like it.

Yeah...come to think of it...I think that's the first picture I've ever posted of my truck. I thought about doing a build thread, but I have no idea how to...lol!!

But yeah...I saw a couple guys plastic coat their bumpers and sides. I really liked what I saw so I started to do the same. Well a buddy of mine is a painter and he wouldn't allow me to use plastic coat. Next thing I knew...I bought a new sport hood (I've always wanted the little hood scoop), took all the doors off and did a full on paint job. I used GM Black for my paint.

That's what started everything on my Toy. After we painted the new hood, bumpers, and sides, I then did my grille and painted my shrouds for the HID's to match. One thing just leads to another!

Hey...Thanks for the complement!! I think it turned out pretty good. I get complement all the time while out driving...that's what makes all worth while! Now I'm waiting for my ShrockWorks Bumper and sliders to come in...that will really finish off the front end! Can't wait...

Kizzy, hey I got kind of lucky when I bought my mesh. I found a piece in the "scratch and dent" section. My piece was 12x36 I believe. I've read and talked to several guys that say the 6" is just barley enough or it's too short. That's why I went looking in the scratch and dent. Hope this helps.

Funny you say that...because that's exactly what I do...lol! I just read your a couple days ago.

Nice looking rig...I'm diggin those TRD wheels you got! That's something I haven't bought yet...someday. I'm like you...I want more power! Supercharger or V-8??? I'll be watching your build!

Haha thanks man. I love those wheels they just make the truck look that much cooler. As far as the v8 goes and supercharger goes, I've changed my mind so many times I feel like a teenage girl trying to decide if I want the pink one or the yellow one. So far I think I've made my mind up. V8 just seems more justifiable. Plus I can always add more power to the v8 more so the to this v6. I do love this 5vz...but maybe I'll get another car and put it in that one. Which isn't likely. Il probably sell the engine.

Same here. I've priced everything out to get the S/C and 7th injector. Lot of money for 100 horsepower. Then you have the V-8...I mean who doesn't want that. Mr Singtoe sure made his swap sound/look easy...but that's a big job!

At this point I'm leaning toward a S/C...that is unless I find a nice and cheap doner truck/SUV before spring. I use my 4Runner as a D/D during the winter...so I can't do anything until spring!

That's the upside of being walking distance from work, also I have the hobby shop that only charges 8 bucks a week or something like that for a long term stall use. It's very practical for me at least to just go with a v8...but then again...supercharger.......here we go again-.- idk I'm going to sit on it some more.

I only have one picture...which is not very good. I put the grille in at the same time I installed my new HID's. So I did it in the evening...therefore not much light in my garage. Anyway, I'll post some better pictures in a couple of days.

Hey bandit thanks a lot! Ha Ha, you don't know how funny that is...because I'm a Police Officer...lol!! Wow...I never gave it any thought...I guess cause our cruisers are solid black. Must have done it sub-consciously!

But really, I just wanted something different then everyone else. Just around here...there 4-5 white 4Runner.

[MENTION=56756]1985taylor1925[/MENTION] Hey thanks a lot. I appreciate the compliment :second:!! Glad you like it. No, I stopped the black there at the hood...Nothing on the roof or rear hatch. But I did paint the fender flares and a stripe at the bottom. I started to paint the hatch at the bottom...but I followed the body lines around and it really went down to the bumpers...so I painted both bumpers.

I never knew there was so much work that went into painting a vehicle!! Wow...I won't be in a big hurry to paint another car...lol!!

All you do for a build thread is start a new thread, and add pics. Starts with a stock, or as close to stock pic that you have, then add in more of things that you've done. Its just a way for you to keep track of what all you've done, and for others to get ideas. Theres not really a wrong way to do it.

Let me start this off by saying...."Im an idiot!!"...as well as...I'm not a happy camper!!

I read countless build threads on how to build a "Satoshi" style grill. A ton of you guys have built these grills on here. I think they give our 4Runners a cool custom look...especially since no one builds a grill for us! So, I attempted to build one. I have a 2000 SR5, so from what I was told and read...I needed a 96-98 style grill to begin with. So, I bought a grill for a '98...never thinking about checking it to make sure to mounted on my 2000! Instead, I jumped in with both feet...doing all the cutting, fiberglas, using a little filler, sanding, priming, painting, used mesh from Custom grill...found a cool "TOYOTA" emblem, painted it up all pretty and mounted it. What I ended up with...was nothing less than a master piece...if I must say so myself! I was so proud and excited...until I tried to install the grill!


The grill's mounting points did not match up with my '00 4Runner's mounting points. Therefore, I have this super cool looking grill....with about $150 wrapped up in it...not to mention the 40-50 man hours I spent...that now just hangs on my garage wall, because it won't fit my 4Runner. Can someone please explain what went wrong...other than I bought the wrong grill..lol!!

Anyway...not to stay down for long, I want to try this again...but this time I want to use a grill that fits my 4Runner!!!! Can someone hook me up with a link for the correct grill to start with? It would be much appreciated!!
