Need help from an expert on the mechanics of a 4x4

Basically, I made a mistake. I made the assumption that the 2006 V8 Limited 4runner that I pre-purchased from a Toyota Dealership (on the internet) had 4x4. The 4runner is for my fiance so I am not totally disapointed (well, actually im pretty pi$$ed). I bought it used with 3500 miles on it and thought that I got a pretty good deal until i found out that there was no 4x4. My fiance doesn't care about the 4x2 and she loves, loves the truck, but the 4x2 is mentally killing me!

My question is... is it possible to add 4x4 later? And... what do you think that it would cost?

First, is this a serious question or are you just trying to get some laughs??

If you are serious and want 4WD then you need to take it back because it would be near impossible ripping out the entire drive train to replace it with either the part time or full time 4WD options.

If you were looking for laughs I thank you because when I first read the your post I got a good one!

Whoa!! I did answer your question and didn't even think I insulted your intelligence. Where did I deserve the A-hole label?

But damn, I did bite because there are soooo many stooopid people out there.

To simplify it, yes it's possible if money is no object and you have time and expertise at hand to do the job. Take it back and get a 4x4 model if that's what you want...if you're happy with 4x2 and the wife is happy with it, then leave it alone. Otherwise, you'll spend less on the hit you'll take by essentially trading it back in right away, than you would if you wanted to switch drivetrains.
