Need help on deciding shocks

I have a 96 4runner limited edition with 160,000 miles.
I had replaced the shocks last year and now it seems like it's going out again.

If I go over a bump, my rear end shifts to a side and it's very, very bumpy. I pushed on the bumper to test it out but it feels fine. It doesn't bounce or anything.

What kind of shocks will make the 4runner ride smooth? It will only be used for daily driving.

Please help, my wife is due in 2 months so I would like to get it fix before the baby come.

again already?

If you just bought new shocks last year there is no reason I can think of that they would no longer be any good.

Is there leakage at one or more of the seals of the shocks?

maybe a broken spring? could that happen? just guessing....

Springs are not broken and I didn't check for any leakage.

I can't remember the brand but I do remember that it was like $35 for the rear and $45 for the front. Cheap stuff I guess.

Now I want to do it right and spend more money to get some good brand.

Monroe Sensatracs are some nice comfy riding shocks. If you want something firmer, but high quality, then i would consider Bilsteins or Edelbrock. The Monroes probably provides the closest stock ride, while Bils and Edelbrocks are firmer (better handling).
