Need Help Rear Hatch Not Closing

The door ajar warning light is always lit on my instrument panel. I thought it was because a sensor was broken. Turns out it's because when I close the trunk/hatch/rear door/whatever you wanna call it, the little latch isn't fully closing. The 4runner thinks it's still open. When I open the rear door and I manually close the latch to trick it into the thinking it's closed, the door ajar light on the instrument panel shuts off. So luckily, I've isolated the issue. However, I have no idea how to make it so when I shut my damn rear door, it will latch fully. It seems like it shuts all the way, when I slam it down it catches, and doesn't open unless I pull on the handle. Yet, the door ajar light remains lit on the instrument panel. Any help would be greatly appreciated. This issue is causing my battery to die, otherwise I really wouldn't care.

Sounds like the strike plate (U shaped metal piece that latch, latches into) that the door latches into may not be positioned right. Might try loosening the bolts and positioning the strike plate slightly forward or backward? Its an easy option and doesn't cost anything but a little of your time.
