Need Help - SRS Codes! --SOLVED--

Ok, T4R Guru(s)

I have the dreaded SRS codes and need help figuring it out.

Past
B1150 - Occupant Detection Malfunction
B1152 - OFF indicator open, driving circuit trouble

Present

I have looked these codes up in the service manual (downloaded from T4R) and read them. Might as well be a foreign language!:frusty:

My first thought is either the "floor wire" or "front seat wire No. 1" since this occurred during a shopping trip and it was OK going in and not OK when we left. Any idea where either of these are? There is a bunch of wires connected to the seat...

Any help would be very grateful.

Try unplugging ones under seat 1st , this was how I turned my bell off & no problems since .

Basically the seat pad circuit is malfunctioning. There could be an issue with the seat pad itself, the wiring, the connectors, ect.

I would do as Oljedi suggested and unplug/reconnect the yellow connectors under the seat first and see if it goes away. SRS DTCs are much like ABS in that they are single trip, when the issue is fixed; 9/10 they turn off by themselves and store a history DTC.

If the issue persists, then you will most likely need a new occupant detection pad that is in the lower seat cushion; if you buy the part most any upholstery shop can do it for you, or a dealership.

Excuse my ignorance, but I do not see this 'occupant detection pad' in any of the diagrams. I do see 4 sensors (one on each corner) that connect to the occupant classification ECU. Please help me understand.

I unplugged/plugged in the the connectors that i could reach tonight and no change. I will look for the yellow ones you described in the daylight. Also it is not a 'power seat' so only recline and back/forth.

Is it correct to assume that this is the 'pad' which is really the entire seat base with the 4 sensors and ECU???

Otherwise I found this what appears to be just the ECU

Whoops, you're right. Sorry thinking of something completely different...

So it is basically an issue with either the SRS Center Airbag Snsor Assembly, the Occupant Detection Module, and/or the wiring in between. At this point we would need to verify that the wiring is intact and then if that checks out good determine which module may have failed. The B1152 indicates a failure in the Passenger ON/OFF Airbag warning lamp circuit; which could point to the SRS Center Airbag Sensor Assembly.

Here is a section from the FSM detailing a DTC B1150 (I realize it is from an '04; but everything should be the same.)

I HIGHLY urge you to disconnect the battery when working/testing the SRS system unless the FSM states otherwise for testing purposes. Also NEVER under any circumstances have the Center Airbag Sensor Assembly plugged in and unbolted; tilting the sensor assembly WILL deploy the airbags if the battery is hooked up and the module is not bolted down properly (also never use an impact tool when installing, always hand tools.)

No worries...I'm learning more that I have ever wanted to know about SRS systems....

What I really need is the software that can actually connect to the system and read each individual sensor...wishful thinking i know...

SOLVED!!!!

I got the TIS Techstream and mini-VIM cable from AMAZON for $25. Plugged it into the 4Runner and went to the SRS system. It gave me a different code than before (didn't write it down ) but it said that it needed a "Zero Point Calibration" so following the prompts I did what it said. Then it said to do a sensitivity test. Done.

ALL WORKS NORMAL SRS light off and passenger OFF/ON and seat-belt indicator all back to normal

Well that's weird... you might have an intermittent SRS issue or something?

SOLVED!!!!

I got the TIS Techstream and mini-VIM cable from AMAZON for $25.

What cable did you get? Can you provide a link to it? From what I've read, there is the genuine Mongoose cable running TIS Techstream Lite, an approved aftermarket one (it's over $600). Whereas, all the cheap ones are Chinese knock-offs. Which is fine (I don't care). I'm just worried that not all the Chinese knock-offs will be able to read SRS.

So if you could point me in the right direction to the one you got, that would be great!
