need help with a lift...

okay so i have a 05 4runner, just picked it up a few weeks ago. i am looking to get a 3 inch lift. this is what i am looking for. something that gives me more clearance. i do plan on going off road. but it is also my daily driver. i know everyone has there own opinion on brands. but this is what i am looking at right now.. http://www.toyteclifts.com/componen...ge/product/3__FJ_Lift_w__fr_4b213c56e10a9.jpg.

i would like a 3 inch body lift too? i guess what i am asking is do is that what i want ^^ is just coils? if not can some one point me in the right direction? i would like to get 33s

I wouldn't use that kit with stock shocks. Either replace the shocks or go with the spacer version of that kit. You can fit 33s with just the 3" lift, no need for a body lift. If you want the body lift, 1.5" is the max you can go.
 
I don't think the stock shocks can handle the added coil rate and length of lift coils. I'd go with a spacer lift if your set on keeping stock shocks. The spacer lift is on their site for $220. There are cheaper alternatives as well such as daystar but you get 1/2" less lift.

Outside of what comes with the lift, nothing else is needed if you stay at or under 3".
 
**Oops** I re-read your question: That kit Ark_Swamp_Rider posted looks decent, but if you are going to do all of that work you might as well replace the shocks as well, especially if you aren't installing it yourself. Below is a link to the Daystar Kit I was talking about, it's about $150 on Amazon.

The Daystart 2.5 / 1.5 lift spacer kit will meet your lift needs and isn't too expensive. Since you plan on wheeling then you should at least look at the other options out there. Once you are in the 3 inch lift ballpark you need new upper control arms (UCA's) to correct the caster. You can get away not having UCA's but your truck is more likely to have the "wandering" feeling on the highway. Below is a great thread for suspension options.

I originally planned on getting the Daystar spacer kit but this forum convinced me if your going to do it, do it right the first time. I'm getting my Old Man Emu (OME) lift with PSC UCA's installed as we speak. :banana:

like i said. i am going be going off road. but it is also my daily driver. so i need something that can handle a little off road but wont brake my wallet at the same time. not only do i have to buy it. i then have yo pay to get it put in. so will the space work for what i am looking to do? or should i go with the full on "coil and shocks. then new UCA'S" ?
 
I was in your exact same boat and didn't want to drop a boat load of money on an expensive vehicle I just purchased. After spending months thinking about what my needs are and reading this forum I went with:

ARB's Old Man Emu kit from toytec.com:
884 springs w/ top plate spacer for full 3 inches of lift (I have the v6 - v8 should go with 885 springs)
toytec superflex springs (either 10 or 20% firmer then stock depending on where you get your information)
and the corresponding shocks toytec recommends
Light Racing UCA's (purchased used on this forum for $300 to correct the caster after the lift).

The OME kit with UCA's and installation cost about $2000 + I'm getting duratracs at the same time which is another $1100. If someone had told me I would spend this much on my truck on top of my monthly payment I would have laughed in your face at the beginning. But I read about it, went wheeling and started to save up money to get what I wanted. I plan on keeping this truck a long time and want to do everything right the first time. If people stick around on the forums long enough they almost always end up upgrading from a spacer kit to FJC, OME or coilovers.

Good luck and use to the "search function" it can tell you almost everything you need to know.
 
BTW this truck is my DD and I have a 60 mile round trip commute every day so on road handling was a priority. I want to be able to speed up for speed bumps. :frog:
 
I love my ome setup. I'm at 3" lift, haven't got an alignment yet but no wandering at all. UCAs are vivre to have but not a necessity at 3" and under. I'm on my third suspension setup, wish I would have dropped the money the first time, would have been a lot cheaper. If you have basic tools it is pretty easy to do the install. You may be able to find someone on here to help depending on your location.

So you need UCA's for more than a 3" lift? worth the price if im going only 3"?
 
They are nice to have, but at 3" you should be ok without them. They can always be added down the road. It doesn't matter if its lift coils or a spacer lift, if you needed them with one you'll need them with the other if lift amount is the same, so don't consider that an added cost when going with new shocks and lift coils.

Im at about 3.5" of lift in the front with stock UCA's and it drives just like it was stock. I was afraid it wouldnt get the alignment back to stock specs but they did with room to spare. I was also expecting wandering or floating but no issues at all! Im keeping mine stock untill i go up to 315's, then a set of LR UCA's.
 
thanks guys this really helped me a lot. as much as i would like to take the cheap way out. i think i will just wait a little longer and spend the money on something better. will 33s fit with a 3 inch?
 
Yes you can fit 33s, most popular size is 285/70/17 which is slightly under but close. With that size you'll need wheel spacers to clear the stock ucas. A narrower tire won't have that issue, not sure what options you have there though.
