Need Help with CEL

Hey guys,

I went and got my CEL read today and I need some help piecing together what is the most likely cause of the codes. The codes as listed are:
P1300
P0300
P0171

I was wondering if they could all be related to the same root cause or if there is maybe two causes as one reads to be associated with the electrical system.

Any help you guys could provide would be awesome!

Unfortunately with this it could be a number of things. What are you experience exactly as far as it idling and while driving? Also what do you mean by wrong plugs?
 
As far as driving, every now and then there is a very clear misfire but it is not regular. Idling is about 700rpm and seems to be just fine. Occasionally however it will just die on me, this has only happened during turns which is very weird.

As for the plugs they are the single head instead of dual and I believe bosche platinums. So I just ordered a set of Denso's.

I would start with getting the plugs changed. If that does not work you have a good list of things to trial and error with. From there I would check the injectors next. If that does not do it then go through the rest of the ignition system but you may even need to consider the fuel filter. I've owned two 5vz engines and have five friends with this exact engine. My dads is the only one who has not had any ignition firing issues. It's been in the upper rpm's a lot of it's life going through two boys who used to drive it growing up. He's had it since showroom and is currently at 290K miles. The ones I've had and my friends own have all gone through the issues you are experiencing. My girlfriends was terrible and the main reason I suspect is because they don't get put into the high rpms and blown out. So we ended up replacing all the injectors, plugs, and wires when hers had a severe misfire code.

These engines like to be pushed every now and then so just start a process of elimination and work through each component and it will improve. Make sure you go out and beat on it a little as well. I assure you that I will help to get some of the crud built up in the combustion chamber out. Before you swap plugs I would also suggest you do a full seafoam treatment as well.

Yeah I just ordered a new set of Denso's hopefully that cures her. Next after that is the MAF. I just got to get her running right for a Colorado trip at the end of the month. Which includes finishing up getting the new lift and other toys installed.
 
Update

So I think I figured it out. I wen't through and checked everything and it turns out that little red wire in the ignition harness in the engine compartment, what I've read is the fuel shutoff switch was almost completely pulled out. I re inserted it and reset the efi and the codes haven't come back yet. However I'll stay on the safeside and run Seafoam then change my oil and plugs. Then after that come the new front shocks and new rear shocks. :)
 
Hey man get yourself error free before the mods: new fuel filter, O2 sensor, clean MAF, clean TBI, tranny cooler, lower LBJ's and radiator.
