Need help with TRS Quik-Retro Install

Hey all -- was hoping to get some help with the install of my Quik-Retro on my 08 4runner. I suck with wiring/comprehension so I think I might be messing up the wiring somehow.

I wanted to just test that everything works so I'm not using the TRS relay harness at the moment, but I am using the hi-beam splitter like so:

When I had it wired up, the high beam would come on but the lo-beam (the Morimoto projector) would not come on.

This is how I remember hooking up the connectors:

Orignal High Beam Output = The plug that WAS connected to the high-beam bulb

Orignal High Beam Bulb = part of the TRS splitter, into the high beam bulb

Projector High Beam Solenoid = into the plug that comes off the projector

I then plugged the OEM low-beam plug into the ballast

After all this, still nothing. It did seem that the OEM low-beam plug didn't really fit into the ballast plug that well -- anyone have problems with that?

Any help is appreciated!

Try it with the TRS relay, your ballasts probably aren't getting the right voltage

Sounds like you wired the High Beams correctly.

I had a similar issue with my fogs not turning on when I didn't use a relay harness. I connected the ballast directly to the OEM connectors without a relay harness the first time through and they wouldn't turn on. After I wired a relay harness between the OEM connector and two ballasts, everything worked. No problems since.

Makes sense -- I guess that would be the next logical step Taking a look at the whole relay harness give me some scares, I just need to sit down and take a good look at the instructions.

For the relay harness:

1 Input (Male plug) -> connect to Low Beam OEM plug (Driver side)
2 Outputs (Female plugs) -> connect to the two ballast plugs
Ballast then connected to the bulbs
2 O-ring connections -> connect red to the positive terminal of the battery
connect black to a grounding point
Nothing will be connected to the Passenger OEM Low Beam connector.

Male and Female refer to the metal pins, not the plastic connector.
Male metal pins are inside a female plastic connector and vise versa.

low beams do not come on with high beams if you didnt do the fog light mod. also lows dont go with highs when its not in parking light mode or low beam mode.
do you really want to flash the hid kits, no

Couldn't decipher this one though, but that's getting off topic. OP's talking about first wiring the high beams then lows without a relay. I was only referencing the Fogs Lights as I had trouble when not using a relay.

This may be a stupid question but did you try the low beam wire plugged into the ballast reversed? That's the only way it works with the 9006 plug (not sure about h11) as the ballast polarity is reversed from the halogen bulb polarity.

I intalled mine without the harness and haven't had any trouble. I actually couldn't get it to work right with the harness, so I left it out.

- if they dont work switch the connector around

once you get the low beam working, we can move on to high beams

-plug the hi beams to the regular bulb, just cut and slice the two wires from the projector to the two high beam wires. no need to worry about polarity.

contrary to what was said in a previous post. with the lights off pulling on the turn signal stalk to activate the highbeams will turn on both low beam and high beam on my 03, no OEM foglight, non-drl vehicle

with my quad projector retrofit, when i pull the stalk with no lights on, all four of my HID's fire up with it in highbeam

my roll is slowed As I just swapped in the cheapo chinese eBay headlights back in since I needed to drive the car.

What do you mean by switch the connector around? Also I was able to get the high beam light working (OEM halogen), so that verifies the TRS headlight splitter harness is working correctly.

It's either swap the TRS relay harness to eliminate that as a possibility, I just wanted to test everything worked before installing the relay harness.

I'm not really sure how the connector looks on yours, but the 9006 connector will plug right into the ballast and latch. But when you do that, the polarity is backwards and the lights won't fire, so you have to flip the plug over so the opposite wires are connected (i.e. red to black and black to red, except that the OEM colors aren't black and red, so it would be black to whatever red is going to now). It doesn't latch this way (when I say latch I'm talking about the little clip that holds the connector to the bulb normally) but the power does work.

It has to do with the polarity of the ballast being opposite of the polarity of the OEM bulbs. Are your HIDs working at all? My understanding is that they are not, if they work with low beams but not high then everything I've said is likely beyond worthless.

Hey -- no you are correct, the HID's don't work at all. I cant recall if I tried flipping the plug (because I remember reading about that problem), but hopefully I'll give it another go this weekend if the weather holds up.

I used the 1 nice day this weekend to do some work on my other caR... And then we got hit with snow again

yup! 4runner gets used for towing the track car to the track, and getting me to work and that's about it. Wanted the HID's for the night time tows from the track so I can actually see what's ahead of me on the road.
