Need new tires: suggestions?

If your criteria for what a superior product is based on recalls...then why do you own a Toyota? Toyota has had more vehicle recalls then any other manufacturer in the past 5 years.

anywho, Since I last posted in here I had my local BJ's order me in 4 265/70/17 BFG Long Trails ( I know, not one i even mentioned in here, but I saw it at the tire shop when i got there and looked like it was better suited for my needs) I waited 4 days for them to come in only to find out that when I got there to have them installed they refused to because they were not factory sized(ended up getting a refund for $50 more than i paid )....soooooooo

Now I'm back to square one lol

Just a bit of advise. Places like discount tire direct will let you order online and drop ship to a local tire place (free shipping) and most tire places have a pre-negotiated install price for discount tire customers. It is a good way to save money. Many of us here don't live near a discount tire, but we take advantage of the pricing they their sister company discount tire direct. Also many chain places will not install tires now that they didn't sell you.


Most places like BJ's, SAMs club etc have policies in place where they only install OEM size.

Just called sears about a set of coopers and they told me same thing, that they would not install them because of liability reasons.... WTF do you guys do to get tires installed????

This is literally making me crazy

this is starting to seem like too much of a PITA just to go from a 65 to a 70 tire...

Def not, and I never thought buying tires would be such a PITA(its always the simple things right?)


Good news though, getting the Cooper Discoverer AT3s from NTB for $180 installed/tire.(take out the install and its like $160/tire) Since I just got a free $50 from BJs im just gonna have NTB order and put them on HA

It is a good way to save money.

It's a good deal if you live in a state that has a sales tax. Here in NH (no sales tax)..I can beat the on-line discount tire prices every time...for any brand out there. There are several good local tire shops that will beat them.

Yep, but in the other 47 states it is a way to save money. The shops down here don't like to negotiate much, plus the chains won't mount anything but OEM size. I miss living in NH. But right now being able to fish 12 months a year (in shorts) is more important.

I just got a set of those at the local farm and fleet $169 plus mounting. Tire barn wanted $250 each, wth? So far only had them in 4-5 inch snow but I'm really happy with them. They have great stopping ability.
