Need some advice

So I’m thinking about doing the TRD Pro appearance conversion on my 2017 Ltd which means to replace the front and rear bumper cover with the pro bumpers and get a hood scoop since I really enjoy all the amenities of Ltd.
However, the price of those plastics is what makes me hesitate, because i know I can probably spend those money on a good aftermarket suspension and lift kit.

What do you guys think? I live in a heavy winter area and I don’t do much off roading.

I say no unless you are getting rid of the side skirts as well. But it is your money to spend not mine. If it was mine I would go aftermarket front bumper, sliders and grille. Probably be cheaper.

It’s your money. If you like it and have the cash, do what makes you happy.

I’d buy another limited in a heartbeat, then start tearing off the low hanging bits pretty fast if I had to buy today.

What’s the plan regarding paint color? If I recall limited’s come in pearl white, trd pro’s regular white.

Good question! You are right, the Ltd only has pearl white ,so it would have to be painted. That’s another costly thing,Lol.

I would go aluminum.... No reason for steel. Hefty or Demello. CBI also does aluminum I think.

Hefty is the only one I know of doing an aluminum rear..

The only aluminum ones I have seen in person are demello (FJ versions) and Hefty. Both are well made.

I would stick with the two I mentioned if it was my money.

There are also some great steel options also, but unless you are doing major beat downs.. and most 5th gens don't do that.

Steels are too overkilled to me. Sure,I will check the two you mentioned and I’ve talked to Chris Hefty before and there are some member bought theirs from him.

Limited conversion to TRD

Mr. Gaines,

If you're not going off road then keep the good looks of the Limited and those retracting side steps. Why risk messing up the appearance and reducing the resale value of a perfectly good vehicle.

If you change the front and back ends (bumpers) then the lines of the side skirts won't line up anymore. The TRD has a higher body profile, no side skirts and the front end has a higher ground clearance. The LE has low hanging body skirts all around. And unless you're going to change those rims and tires ($), you'll still have 20" wheels. TRDs have 17" rims.

A better choice would be to cut off those side skirts and add on rock sliders. But you don't need sliders if you're not going off road.

Enjoy your classy ride for a few years and then trade it in for the TRD or whatever Toyota offers next.

For a lot less money and trouble you could buy a TRD, upgrade the radio and speakers and have the seats upholstered in leather.

Thank you and very well said,Dave!
I just hope they can put a push start button in the pro and all the amenities that Ltd has in the future.

Push button start on my tractor

Thank you and very well said,Dave!

When I was a kid we had a push start on our old Caterpillar tractor. We still had to put the key in an ignition switch and turn it to "ON". Then you pushed the start button and held it until the diesel engine started firing. That was a fun old beast to drive when I was a kid.

Every car maker is going with push start buttons, even in economy cars. I expect Toyota will add it to the 4Runner in the next generation. Me, I'm fine with the old school key start and manual 4x4 shift lever on my 2015 Trail Edition.

Good luck with your Limited Edition, whatever you decide.

I do off-road so a steel rear bumper is an easy choice. I’d probably try to choose an aluminum front bumper though a trail bumper cover might work. That extra weight adds up quick and will impact handling. If I were building over I’d try to get where I am today, minus the “braces”look.
