need some audio help

I'm wanting to improve the 'base' audio in my T4R. I have a 2018 SR5 with entune and nav NO JBL.

After reading what seems like 1000's of threads, visiting audio shops in Phoenix
and calling Daniel at OEM Audio+ - I am thoroughly perplexed :frusty:

Basically i feel this comes down to 3 choices:

1) OEMAUDIO+ can't say enough about the GREAT phone call and information Daniel provided.

2) Keep the headunit and replace the speakers, add amp and DSP

3) Chuck the headunit and replace the speakers, add amp no DSP needed.

so for those that have worked on the T4R, my queations are:

what types of coaxials did you put in the rear doors and hatch?
what was the difficulty in fitment?

what types of components did you put in the front doors and dash?
what was the difficulty in fitment?
how did you get around the "strange" wiring on our tweeters?
the woofers in the door are directly wired to the tweeters - in parallel i believe

if you added an amp:
Did you use a dsp to 'flatten' the EQ curve?
if so - which dsp?
if you did not use a DSP did you use an amp with high level inputs or a LOC?

If you are using the OEMAUDIO+ what do you think of it and how 'loud' cant you turn it up cleanly. Out of simplicity - this maybe my preferred solution my main concern is the few times i like to 'crank it up' (not often) can it handle it.

Is anyone using the OEMAUDIO+ systems with the TWO amplifiers?

any and all other advice is welcome.....

I kept the factory head unit...non jbl entune with nav.

I replaced front door and dash with focal is690toy components as a direct plug and play swap. No wire cutting or splicing.

Rear doors and hatch we replaced with focal ic165toy. Again a direct swap with no cutting or splicing.

I added an audison bit ten processor and jl audio 5 channel 700 watt amp. Using harnesses from tacotunes there was no splicing exept to add the audison plug to the end of its supply harness. The hardest part was running the #2 wiring for power. I used a dual amp install kit and the spare fuse block powers my fridge.

The unused 5th channel on the amp was reserved for a subwoofer but the focals produce enough mid base i find it unneccesary. Its VERY loud. Can be uncomfortably loud. Its also very clean and rich. No distortion at any level. Ive never done an audio install before. The speaker swap took maybe 2 hours total. I spent a day doing the rest of it. I also added sound deadening in all 4 doors.

Its my best mod.

I was attempting to do the same thing. I wanted to keep the stock head unit and upgrade the rest. Went with Focal separates in the front, Focal components in passenger, delete hatch speakers, JL Audio pro 12" sub in rear, mono amp for sub and 4-channel for Focal's with an Audio Control LC7 to make everything work with the stock head unit. Sounded better than stock, but felt something was missing. Plunged in and got a Kenwood head unit and dash kit. Had dash kit painted to match the dark charcoal metallic trim in the TRD and removed the LC7 since the head unit takes care of this. So mad I didn't just do this from the start. All components the same except the head unit replacement instead of the LC7 and the sound is 100 times better. Additionally I now have Apple Car Play (unit also does Android). Either way you'll improve, but my advice is upgrade the head unit too.

One additional note; with the Kenwood head unit I now also have engine gauges and can monitor my tire pressures.

Super old thread but I am in the same boat. Have the focals, jl Audio amp, lc7i and sub and it’s plenty loud and sounds much better but I know I am not getting the most out the system. I think the LC7i adds bass that is just not right. Really boomy at times. Tried to adjust to no avail. On the fence between a dsp or a new head unit. I don’t want the secondary volume knob with a dsp so leaning towards a Kenwood head unit. It’s taking some time to warm up to the look of the double din in this dash but I am about to get there. CarPlay etc would be nice to have. The head unit just seems like an easy fix and gets you up to date with today’s technology.

Are you happy with the appearance? I have access to an automotive paint booth so painting the dash kit is very doable. I would get the scosche. Like it better than the metra.
