I am thinking about buying this 4runner but i need some advice first. Here are the specs on the car: It is a 1998 limited. It is listed at $6995 It has 208k miles on it and the timing belt and water pump were replaced two years ago so I'm not worried about it breaking down. For this year and mileage though what is a reasonable price to talk the dealer down to?

for reference i recently look at a limited with 157k' and they were asking 7991.00 before a test drive or looking at it i got a OTD price of 5600.00. However after driving it i passed on it it needed a bunch up front and it had a history of minor accidents. i'm not one to talk really i just got one with 243k on it . where are you located i have seem most runners in the carolina area so maybe i can help you out, or i can help you with car faxes.

For $6-8K, you could find a 3rd gen with ~100-150K miles and in good shape. I would pass if it were me. I just saw this a couple days ago and thought it was a good deal on a hard-to-find 5 spd, and low miles!!!:

NADA is actually what the dealerships and credit unions use. (mom was a loan officer)
KBB is more for private selling...
but I do agree that that seems overpriced given the mileage and age.

146k miles with a replaced clutch seems iffy to me.

Pretty darn good price huh? I'm thinking it could be just because of the year. A co-worker of mine only had 160K on a '98 V6 5 spd ext. cab Taco and took $5K for it about 3 months ago, after trying to sell it for 2 or 3 months. I was thinking about giving him a call and asking about it. It's only a few miles away from my parents house. If it sounds legit maybe I'll go look at it.

That is a high price for that mileage, I bought my 99 Limited from a dealer in Feb and OTD was $7200 with 157K on it.

Good point, I would pass either way for that price personally, but if it's not 4x4 then absolutely no way jose!

for reference i bought a 2001 limited with 56K on it for 8,500 before i got my '99, the financing fell through,i was also looking at a 2001 sport edition for 7,500 with 98 for about the same price.

they want fat too much money for this one but imo, this is the best you can hope for.
fully loaded 1999 with 30,000 miles on it diff lock and multi-mode 4x4,
may start an argument here but some believe teh 99's were the best year for the 3rd gen, i'm one of them but i'm bias, make your own decision.
call them and try and haggle, see what you can get it for, i have no idea of your budget.
