Need some help!

Background: Ive got a 99 Limited 4X4. 225K on the clock. Just put some maintaince into it like new timing belt, water pump, valve cover gasket. Purchased back in Janurary for $5,000 the truck is in practically mint condition I love it

Now I noticed what looked like an oil spill on the garage floor, and sure enough, above the right rear wheel well is a liquid all over the bottom of the car. When i drive, I hear a (rhoooom, rhhooom) noise coming from the underneat of the car.

I just went to a local mechanic, he mentioned it was the wheel bearing I think he said that sprung a leak, and quoted me with new shoes and bearings and all that fun stuff (Im not too mechancially inclined) just over $500. Ive been driving like this and not realizing it for a few hundred miles and am afraid I have damaged my rear end, i dont belive so but who knows. Does that sound like a reasonable amount? I want this problem fixed ASAP so I dont cause more harm to my Runner. Any input?? Thanks!
