I am looking to get another 3rd gen again that will last me till I am done with college. I have come across a 99 limited with 207 on the clock but has some damage to the front and rear bumpers. I just wanted to get your guy's opinions before I pull the trigger. The timing belt was done at 130k miles so I know that it is needing a new one here soon. I have talked them down to under $5000. Let me know what you guys think. Here is a link to the 4runner

Wouldn't call it a steal but not bad either. I paid $5000 for a '99 last year with 190K on it. Timing belt and water pump had just been done and it was super clean.

Ya I know what you mean. I picked up my first 99 with 150k miles for 3900 but 4wd toyotas here in California I fetching more than blue book

How do you get 17 mpg?

my recent mpg mixed with city/highway driving was about 20.5 mpg..

but to the OP,

are you purchasing for an DD? what's the story behind the front bumper and back?

I would just worry about how they treated the internals of the vehicle being that they didn't treat the exterior so well. 207k miles is a lot of miles if someone didn't treat it right.

The reason the front bumper is a little tweaked is because they got in a little accident at 15 mph where some turned into them. The other vehicle I am looking at is a 99 4x4 v6 Tacoma with 170k miles for the 5000. That one the body is scratched and the paint is fading. Also needs the valve gaskets done. Which one would you guys go for?

That's a tough one. Do you need a truck for any reason? I sold my '01 Tacoma to get an '01 4Runner. Didn't want to do it, but I needed the added passenger space. I miss my Taco all the time. No substitute for a truck.

Well guys I had a family emergency come up so I passed on the 4runner but now I am looking at another one. Its a 99 V6 4x4 manual with 220k miles on it. The guy selling it is the original owner who a maintained it religiously with records to prove it. Its has quite a few mods done to it including $1000 worth of new tires. Here are some pics of it

How much is he asking for it?

This is what is done to it new BFG Mud Terrain tires (6), ARB bumper, Warn Winch, Hella Off road lights, Roof Rack, Tow Package, Bilstein Shocks, 2 1/2 in lift, K & N FIPK Cold Air Intake, Throttle Body Spacer, NEW Optima Red Top Battery, Electric Fans & Aux Cooling Fans. Also has: Jett Performance Chip, Hood Louvers, Shovel & Jack Mounting Hardware & Borla Exhaust. With an immaculate interior

I'd say for the extra $500 or so that the guy is asking for the modded red 4runner is well worth it. Pictures can be deceiving but fwiw the red one looks more well kept than black one. Not to mention it's sexier and all the mods are done to it already!

Good luck on your decision though. If something doesn't feel right, DON'T DO IT!

P.S. Is that 4runit's younger brother? :wow:

I thought for a second that was 4runit's 4runner. I'd go for it as long as it checks out.

Ya the only think I was worried about was the miles but he says he has every record for the maintenance he has done to it. I am going to check it out on Saturday and if all goes well I will be a T4R owner again

Well after all of that the owner decided to keep the 4runner so my search continues. I must say I am getting tired of people putting their vehicles up for sale and when someone wants to buy it at the last moment they change their minds
