Need Suggestions - Paint on Stock Radio Dash is Chipping

I am not quite sure to do at this point so I am turning to the forum for suggestions. I stuck one of those cardboard cut-out air fresheners in the bottom "space" of the center air vent. With the heat and whatever else, the scented oil or whatever they put on those air fresheners, which was resting on the silver finish of the dash started to...well, melt away is the only way I can describe it. So, the silver finish has given way to the black plastic underneath. Anyways I thought I might be able to just replace the silver dash face for a stock SR5 radio, but apparently it's connected to the entire radio assembly.

I'll snap a few photos when I get a chance, but I wanted to know if anyone had any suggestions. I was hoping there is still a way to replace the dash kit, without having to purchase the entire $1800 radio assembly. I really don't want to paint, because matching would be a pain and I don't want to get into aftermarket dashkits.

Any help would be appreciated.

Im sure that you can replace the dashkit, it makes sense that you could. Or, you could vinyl wrap it the way some folks on here have done. Im pretty sure Harper7 did it and I know someone else as well but cant remember who. I dont know much about it except that is an option. Oh, I keep my tree freshner in the door cubby, works just as well and out of sight/way.

the same thing happened on my wife's minivan. it's a pain to clean off too.

I was hoping someone would pop up and tell me that there is a way replace the upper center console dash piece. It would make sense to me that you'd be able to separate the radio from the plastic face, but it won't help too much if I can't find a replacement.

Metra makes a "double din" dash kit that is painted silver. I'd like to know if the stock radio would fit in that.

Have any thoughts?

Interesting...I really didn't want to get into dash kits. The kit for the 5th Gen includes 32 pieces. I might inquire whether I can just order the two or three pieces that make up the center console, but I have a feeling that may look out of place against the rest of the interior.

I know I thought about that too. It might be the perfect excuse to get a Pioneer AVIC, although my wife doesn't think it's that big a deal...however she doesn't have to stare at it everyday. I might just have to live with the messed up finish for a while until I can figure something out.

Silver Metallic Trim - Matching Paint?

Bump - Probably a good place for this Q:

I have the Scosche dual-din dash kit for my '13 T4R SR5. It had a few blemishes when I got it (rubbed against the box), and it doesn't match the factory silver trim verbatim.

I'm not sure if the '13's might have a different "silver" dash color from previous model-years, but my factory silver interior parts are very metallic/sparkly - and the Scosche kit is a bit flatter and doesn't have anywhere near the "metallic shimmer" of the factory parts.

Is there a good plastic paint that closely matches a '13 T4R's highly-metallic silver trim pieces?

I've seen the entire radio assembly go for about $60 before on eBay. Most have buy it now around 300$, but just be patient and make sure you're getting the correct one. I believe there's 4 small numbers on the front and definitely a part number on the bottom.

I don't know if you subscribe to xm, but may have to swap the radio IDs on your account... No big deal, just wanted to mention it.
