1999 3.4 Limited 4wd. Truck has about 220k on the clock and drives great. During my oil change the other day I noticed that the passenger side LBJ boot was torn. I replaced OEM w/ NAPA about 5 years ago so far they have held up (please don't flame on the OEM or bust, I know), along w/ that I noticed that the driver side outer CV boot was torn and I think the OTE is worn as well. A bit of slop in the steering and uneven wear in the tire. I haven't confirmed yet, but it is my suspicion. As the truck is almost 20 y/o, almost the entire front end is still original and I want to get another 5 years or so out if it at least I was thinking of taking some tax return money and giving the front end a face lift.
It is my daily driver and stays on the road for the most part. Occasional farm/field use and definitely snow in the winter, but I'm not doing any hardcore offroading. I'm starting to plan the parts list, prioritizing critical and worn pieces first. If a lift is still in the budget after all is said and done, I might go ahead and do it since I'll have it apart.
Ok, to the point. It looks like I'm going to do at least LBJ and OTE on both sides. I've heard you can use TACO parts if you swap out both at the same time. Would this be a worthwhile effort? I haven't done a price comparison but have read that the taco parts are a bit beefier. Or should I just still w/ the OEM 4runner parts?
Should I do the ITE while I'm in there? I figured they are near 20y/o and I might as well. I don't think I want / need to mess with upper ball joints. Should I do both CVs (only 1 side is torn). Also going to do new pads/rotors (not doing the Tundra swap). I did swaybar links and bushings a few years back when I did the steering rack bushings.
Any thoughts?
Thanks,
