Need to repalce pinion seals on my 95...

I was doing some searching, looking to see if anyone had a writeup on replacing the front and rear pinion seals but came up with nothing. Whos had these done on theres? any DIY'ers?

ok i was able to find a video on doing the rear diff.. seems easy enough
how different is the front diff to do? I cant seem to find anything on it.

The Factory Service Manual has excellent "writeups" on how to do everything on your truck.

Front will be the same as the rear. Make sure the the yoke isnt scored where the seal sits on it.

Clean out your diff breathers first. If they get clogged, fluid will come out the pinion or axle seals. Also a good time to inspect and grease your drive shafts, sometimes a loose/bad u joint will cause the seal to leak.

Get a factory service manual. Theres a link for that on the top of the classics section.

I looked through instructions in several manuals, online howto and youtube. It is not that difficult. You probably want to replace the pinion flange nut too.

My biggest difficulty was trying to put the drive shaft back on with only 2 hands while trying to hold the wrenchs, bolts, and nuts.

before you do anything, you need to know that pinion nut is what sets the preload. i wanna say the correct way is to tear down the entire diff to replace the seal and reset the preload correctly.

now there is a trick. you mark the pinion nut and count how many turns it comes off, replace the seal and reinstall nut the same amount of turns it came out. i usually go a little more just to be safe but not much.

On top of each diff is a little jiggle valve, that is supposed to let the pressure in the diff equalize as it gets hot through use and cools down after. If that valve gets clogged with oil or dirt, air can't get through, and the next place it'll try to force it's way out are the axle and pinion seals. So take it off and soak it in brake cleaner, get it nice and clean.
