I need to replace the timing belt on my 98 4Runner SR5 4X4 5 speed, and i was wondering if there is a recommended list of other parts to replace at the same time??? (water pump, tensioners, ect.)

My friend has all the tools and everything so we will be doing it ourselves, so if you have any tips or things to check while we are there that would be great too.

Thanks Everybody,
Ben

I did it on my 97. For sure while your in there put a new water pump in. You have to take the same stuff off to get to the water pump that your already taking off to get to the timing belt. I did not change my belts and I am now kicking my own ass for it. While their off its cheap just to replace them now and save the headache later. Any questions or anything be sure to ask. Did all the work my self. Hope this helps.

If it were me, I'd go ahead and do the v-belts as well. I'd do the water pump, and since you're there, I'd do the thermostat as well. Since summer is coming up, I'd drain, flush and fill the radiator too. How about a new set of plugs while you're at it?
