Hello all... my beautiful 4runner quit running 2 years ago and it is now time for me to move. I need to tow her to the new house but have no idea how to do it... Plus, I'm broke! Can anyone provide me a viable *cheap* option if possible? She is a black 97 with 5 speed 4x4 tranny. I love this thing and would like to get it running again some day! Thanks in advance.

Two years and you have not fixed it? Sell it, and buy another 3rd gen down the road.
If set on keeping it, and you have at least a 1/2 ton truck, rent a U-haul flatbed.

Yeah rent a tow dolly. But there is no need to disconnect the driveshaft.

If its a manual trans, it won't matter. If it were an auto, you would want to disconnect the driveshaft if the rear wheels were on the ground

I did not know that. Is that the case with all manual 4wd?

Just put the manual trans in neutral and the transfer in 2Hi or better yet, neutral. Seeing that it is a 97, the transfer case would be a manual (non AWD).
If you tow an automatic trans vehicle it must either be running or the driveshaft out. If not you can burn up the trans because the fluid isn't being pumped.
How far are you going to tow it?
