Hi all,

I just got 99 4runner from a local auction that has a radio ripped off (or stolen).

Should I just get a regular Toyota factory radio or something new perhaps even with Navigation or something?

Please, let me know what you think, here is the attached photo.

Thank you,

IL

Just look up double DIN stereo's or single DIN if you want a cubby hole. There are many many options when putting a stereo in a '99

I wouldn't bother replacing it with a factory deck. These days you can get an aftermarket deck with an ipod hookup, bluetooth as well as a ton of other features for around $100. If you're willing to spend more, you can get a really nice one.

Yep, buy something new. The sound quality of an entry level deck today is vastly superior to the stock one. Now I have good news and bad news for you. The good news is that it appears that the person who installed the (missing) radio did not hack out the wire harness. This makes things really quick and easy, when you buy a new radio make sure you get a harness like this one: Metra Part # 70-1761 | Toyota wire harness | Metra Online
The bad news is that they took the factory mounting brackets for the radio. You cannot install any radio without these. I recommend checking a local wrecker first. Any set from a 3rd gen 4runner will work (probably more models too, but I cant remember for sure) If not, you'll have to get this: Metra Part # 99-8101 | Toyota Dash kit | Metra Online All you want from this bag is "Bracket Set "A")
For reference, here is a shot of the trusty old Alpine that I sold to a collector last year. It is a standard "Double DIN" size. The only parts used were the factory brackets and a 70-1761 harness.
