New 07 Sport v6, weird engine noise?

Hey Folks,

I just picked up our new Black 07 Sport Ediiton-V6.

It has only 35kms...yes...35...

when I parked it in the garge, I heard teh strangest engine noise...standing afront of the engine, it was isolated to the right-driver side...I stuck my head in...it was a super loud click click click.

Nothing was abnormal on the left hand side-passenger

Any ideas? Is this normal?

The V6 engine is known to make a ticking sound. I defnintely would not call it "super loud" though. Unless yours is unusually loud, I would say it is 100% normal.

BTW, many people here believe the sound is due to the fact that the V6 engine using a timing chain instead of a timing belt.

Okay that makes sense. I just wish I knew for usre. Well my sister in law has an 04 sport-v6, I'll check with hers this weekend.

I really hope it is all okay. As far as I'm concerned, my black beauty is just an Infant

Toyota V6's with timing belts do it too. It's very normal... not sure why. It has to be injectors or lifters.

Actually I've noticed it on my 06's V6 as well. Gets louder as it warms up more. I've half assed listened to it and it almost seems like it's coming from some vacuum solenoid or something on the driver side just under the top engine cover. Havent gotten my stethescope out yet though to really listen around and pinpoint the noise. Havent done a search yet here either but I have seen some comments on a ticking noise on the V6's.

There was something in the manual about a fuel venting system making a sound like that after the vehicle has been turned off; perhaps that's what it is? I'm trying to remember...I think that sticker might have been on the rear hatch or something (have to go out and look later).

A bit off topic, but yes, there's an active part for the fuel evaporative emissions control. It occassionally conducts pressure tests on its own; I've happend to be in the garage once or twice while it does it. That sounds like a little motor running.

The noise we've mentioned above is a pretty distinctive, rythmic ticking noise that's coming from the engine somewhere. Forgot about the vacuum system; that's another possible culprit.

They all do it...Tacomas with the 4.0L do it too. Some are louder than others for no good reason. Nothing you can do about it.

You're hearing the magnets which are part of the fuel injection.
I hear the same noise on all Honda engines. Don't worry about it. How often to you stand in front with the engine running?

As others have said, it's normally.. unless it's incredibly loud.

Actually mine is loud enough that when it warms up it ticks loud enough that you can hear it from inside the vehicle, if the stereo is off. It's quite loud, very very noticeable when you pull up to a drive-thru near a wall, the sound echoes off the building and is quite distinct. I wouldnt think a new vehicle would have something on it that would tick so loud on purpose.

Okay. Sounds like it is normal. It's not annoying, you can't even hear it inside, just outside, especially when the 'runner is in the garage.

Glad to know everyone is in the same boat.

We now have 400kms on it..and loving every part of it!

It rained today, and the black beauty is dirty. Sigh. Oh well. Shine it up next week!
