New '13 hard start

Hi from Pa,

Well after a whole year doing my due diligence, I picked up a new 13 sr5, blizzard pearl yesterday. I previously owned a 2004 sr5 and after 7 years traded it on a 3 series Bmw. Welcome home, was my gut instinct after many test drives. So my question is starting this vehicle my Bmw had a push button and cranked over quick, however with the key start either I am not used to holding the key long enough in the start position or is there some kind of issue with starting the truck. It seams to take me 2 times to start it. Also looking underneath at a brand new frame and under carriage everything is new and black in a few months will come the surface rust and I am aware it's inevitable. Does anyone recommend at least in the spare tire area or any other components a spray silicone application or any advice to the undercarriage.

I think you are just used to remote start...
Correct me if I'm wrong, but Hondas and Toyotas take a second before the ignition turns over

I noticed I have to turn the key until it starts and it can take a smidge longer to start on my 2013. It always starts and runs like a champ.

I think you are used to what your 04 did. On the 04 you turned the key to the start position and could let go of the key. It would keep cranking until the engine started. It would disengage the starter on its own after the engine starts. On the new SR5s you have to hold the key on till it starts or you have to do it again. I do not know why they did away with this feature on the 5th gens.

Thrown some POR15 or something similar on the frame. Do it right now and it will be great for many years.

My '12 too. I was thinking about asking the forum about it, but it looks like it's pretty common. I still fail now and again (miss that extra fraction of a second), and have to start it on the second try.

The 4th gen had assistant starter, or whatever is the proper name for it, basicly when you turn the key then it is automaticly cranks till it starts, where in 5th gen you have to hold the key until it starts in begining it took me some time to get used to that, but then i got used to it and it doesn't bother me. Where in PA are you?

huh?????BS! Limiteds don't even have a key.They have a push button start and you push it once and it starts right up.

Maybe it was the Trail I drove when I noticed this. I took all three trims out for test drives multiple times. Sorry, without owning one and having very limited time behind the wheel I could have confused the trims.

My 4Runner feels the exact same way! After going from a permit and driving my parent's cars to my own 4Runner, it is such a pain to start it up. My dad drives a MB and my mom drives a BMW and it's hard to go back from a push-button to a turn-key. I guess both of us will get over it eventually.

No, I love my 4Runner, it's so convenient and handy for so many things. I picked it over a merc. It's just that once you drive a BMW or Merc, you get so used to it, and you expect that type of quality in everything, even a truck.

Maybe tell daddy not to be so cheap ,get off his wallet and buy you a Limited that has a push button start like the rest of us spoiled kids have instead of a bottom of the line SR5 he bought you.:eyebrows:
Lexus GX460 has it too and only a few more dollars!
That way you won't get all confused and worn out turning that key.

Still cheaper then the AMG he was going to give you.

As you are just a kid I will play nice. You need to remember that just because your parents give you whatever vehicle you want the rest of us are actually working in real jobs to pay for our vehicles and have no outside support.

If I were you I would not post anything else with your age, political or ethnic background and especially getting 4Runners for free on your parent's dime. That is just asking for it.

I would give this same advice to my 18yo son except he is smart enough to not do that in the first place, nor would he ask questions unless he had exhausted all avenues of information first.
