Two one way plane tickets from San Jose, CA to Las Vegas, NV~~~$229.
Shuttle bus from Vegas airport to St George, UT~~~~~~~~~~~~$45.
Hotel in Vegas for the night~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~$135.
Two and a half tanks of gas and a 642 mile drive back to San Jose~~$110.
Possibly the first 2010 TE owner in California~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~PRICELESS!!

After a long wait and every dealer in California stating it would be several months before any TEs made it into the state I decided to take an adventure and even kept the girlfriend happy with a night in Vegas.

The nine hour drive through the dessert was an absolute blast. Found some trails off the highway and tried out the abundance of controls. I am very pleased so far to say the least. Even hit a little snow.

Awesome, too bad they are so hard to find for everyone. I was told that the Northeast region, I live in PA was only getting 40, yes 40 for the total 2010 build, TE that is. I bought SR5 last week and love it. Congrats and I am sure it was fun to do some off roading with it as well. enjoy.

So what happens exactly when you purchase from out of state? I'm in Los Angeles and always wondered how the whole transaction goes down. Did you have to pay taxes in UT? Did you check that the vehicle is 50 state certified?

Congrats on your TE, but last week I test drove a TE with California plates at the LA auto show Toyota drive event, you may be the first private owner of a TE in CA. Btw - how does it drive on the highway? How is the wind noise, if any? My 4th gen drives me nuts with the constant wind roar at highway speed.

Unfortunately I will end up paying the much high CA taxes. CA forces you to pay taxes on new vehicles when you register with the DMV. I am assuming that is CAs way to avoid losing money on vehicles being bought out of the state. I did confirm with the dealer that there would be no issues bringing the vehicle back to CA.

I have no complaints about the highway driving. The road noise at highway speeds seems very minimal.

I live in Davis and bought my TE back in October. I'm flying back east to drive it out here in a week.

You are not supposed to rev the engines high until the first oil change at 3-6k. That has more to do with hard acceleration than the actual speed you drive.

By the way, when I bought my vehicle in TN, I paid CA taxes there. I'm hoping that when I show up to the DMV in CA they have received the information and taxes that I already paid.

I just bought a new 2009 Honda CRV 4WD for my parents in Las Vegas as well and drove it home to LA. I just received the pink slip today actually.

You wont have issues. We had some issues. Went to the DMV 3 times!
1. Fill out the new car registration form, found on the DMV site.
2. You will pay tax in CA. As we did not pay tax in NV.
3. You will NEED a smog check. Yes even though on a brand new 50 state carb approved car. Get this done before you go to the DMV so you dont need to go multiple times like I did.
4. Make sure you drive your new 4runner to the DMV as they need to verify some things, VIN number, etc.

I went 3 times to the DMV because they never told me what I needed. I hate DMV folks.

4R's are hard to come by near Pittsburgh. I was the first one to purchase the first one the dealer received. That was on 11/27. Another one came in a few days later (12/2) and it was sold the same day. I don't think they've received any since then. I have not seen one on the road yet during all my travels (50 mile roundtrip commute every day and also traveled to Cleveland in a rental last week). Think I will get depressed when I know someone else in my area has one! By the way, it's a Black SR5 with Moonroof and Bluetooth/USB port. Cannot believe I bought another black vehicle - washed it four times already.

It did come with the KDSS.
New wheels and tires in the near future. No other plans as of yet.
