New 3Gen owner, Tire size ?

So just picked up a 2000 V-6 3rd Gen 100k miles and runs Great! Very well maintained.

It currently has 265/70/16 tires which will need replacing soon.

I'd like to work on the MPG aspect of the vehicle so I have been thinking on thinner width tires for the new set.

From using some the Tacoma world Tire size Calculator, Im thinking 235/70/16 would give me a narrower width, and a bit shorter profile.
The truck is going to be all Highway and street miles here in LA, maybe graded fire road camping about 2 times a year so the taller profile isn't that necessary.

What are your thoughts on going with 235/70/16's?

The next closest tire size would be 245/75/16. The overall height is roughly the same, but it's going to be about 1" narrower. They're going to be lighter than a 265/70/16 tire so that should help you achieve what you're after.

With the 245/75/16, is it crucial to get a new matching Spare? The spare would be just to get me to a local spot to get another tire or fix.

You will be fine with your current spare.
