"New" 4Runner, door rattles

I got my 1997 4Runner in February of this year. It is in great shape and had 109,000 on it when I bought it. It was a one owner vehicle and was used as a commuter and didn't go off-road. I've put almost 7,000 on it and have driven it a lot off-road. It was rattle free when I got it but now both front doors have a rattle. The noise in the drivers door sounds like something inside the door; perhaps the locking mechanism or something with the power windows, I really don't know. I've tried pressing on the door panel and have also locked the door but the rattle doesn't go away. Is there something in particular that I should look for? I've done some searches on this site and door rattles seem to be fairly common but I didn't see anything specific about what to look for.

The passenger door rattle is from the latch and the part on the door jamb where it closes (sorry,don't know the correct name of it). The three Torx fasteners on the door latch were loose as were the two fasteners on the door jamb. I tightened them all up but the rattle is still there. I don't see how to adjust either piece. I wrapped some electrical tape around the door jamb piece and the rattle went away but I'd rather actually fix the problem. Also, the tape has made it harder to open the door so eventually that'll cause a problem. Any advice/info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the reply. I wish that there was some kind of real "fix" instead of adding foam to hopefully alleviate the rattle. Is the rattle caused by the latch wearing out? Both of the rubber bump stops are in place but perhaps they have broken down a bit although they do look okay. Perhaps I'll replace those and see what that does.

Any ideas on what may be rattling inside the drivers side door? Is there some component in these doors that commonly comes loose or breaks?

I would open the door up & see what's up. Get a clip puller and pry bar & be gentle & maybe you'll only break 1/2 of the clips. Good luck!
