New 4Runner, new tire recommendations.

Picked up the last '14 SR5P at a local dealer. Already purchased a few mods

Nfab Nerf bars
RCI skid plate
RCI front plate

This vehicle will be used for daily driving, light off roading, camping, fishing & hunting. I'm going to eventually gonna do a 1.5" lift next year.

Next items on the list are wheels and tires. I plan to do factory TRD 17" or TRD 16" FJ wheels. Say I want to go with the 17s, what would be the biggest tire I can do without any suspension mods? No rubbing, and still good for daily driving.

16" wheels can't contain the awesomeness of the 5th gen 4Runner's brake hardware.

Another member recently linked to a tire test by a leading off-road organization, it is quite interesting: Where the Rubber Meets the Road | Expedition Portal

They picked the tire that is the "forum consensus" for all around performer. Dedicated mud tires sound fun for a highway daily driver, but in my experience (including running super swamper TSL's on a dd) an all-terrain is the ideal compromise. Good luck!

There are quite a few guys running 275 70 17's on here with no trouble. I think that is a nice look for a small or no amount of lift.

I have a 2013 SR5 and I just bought the new TRD Pro wheels, they arrived today and look awesome. I have it narrowed down to Nitto Terra Grapplers or the Cooper Discoverers AT3's but I will probably go with the Coopers because of all the rain we get. Nice rig, you are on the right track.

I'm really leaning towards the TRD Pro's 17x7 and wrap them with BFG A/T's. If I see them at a good price I'll scoop them up!

16" wheels will not fit. The brake rotor and calipers will hit the outside wheel diameter. Neither will 15" wheels....

Just bought a used 4R myself and have been kicking around the tire question a lot lately. I think I've narrowed my selection to the Cooper STMaxx 275/70/17 or possibly the cooper at3 or falken wildpeak in the same sizes. I do quite a bit offroading...generally old mine roads in AZ so I am heavily leaning towards the STMaxx given their extra ply + E rating beefiness.
