New 4runner owner with a (probably) simple lift question

Greetings...

I just bought a 2016 Trail. I was inspired by my neighbor's beautiful 2014 Trail, which had a Truxx spacer lift, with 3" front and 1.25" rear. So, I paid the dealer to swap the tires to Destination at 285/70/17 and put the spacer lift on it. Then, I cane here and did a great deal of research and see that the spacers are generally frowned upon.

I do pretty mild offroading and just don't feel comfortable replacing a lot of parts on this new vehicle. So, From what I understand, a 2" lift is about the most I can go without placing stress on the CV. Also, this vehicle will be my daily driver. The lift's purpose is to 1) accomodate the larger tires and 2) look cool so as to pick up sweet young babes.

Question: what is a quality 2" suspension lift option that will get me what I want with shocks only? I prefer not to replace springs.

I already spent hours perusing those two threads and the links within them. If my answer is in one of them, it is buried.

Yes, I am considering the Bilstein's. Those will get me 2" of the lift in the front but nothing for the rear, correct? If it will give me some rear lift, I will buy them.

I would like to lift the front and the rear. I like a slight rake, but not entirely opposed to leveling. I have also read of a couple guys running just 5100'd in the front for a level while leaving the rear end stock. Any reason that is a bad idea?

Thanks...

Im not to familiar with 5100's so hopefully the guys running them would chime in. From what I've searched and read before buying my lift.. the rear would need a spacer or a longer/stiffer spring to add lift; otherwise, you will be almost level with the front lifted.

The Bilstein 5100s are a great inexpensive lift that is better than spacers, which are garbage. You can go up to 2.5" just fine in the front with no effect on the CVs and I still have stock UCAs too. For the back get some replacement springs which give you 2" of lift. I have Icons and they work fine too. This set up is pretty inexpensive, but I'd be willing to bet I've wheeled it harder than many mall crawlers that get a multi thousand dollar Icon system and use it on dirt roads only. I've been all over Moab on three separate trips and the suspension does fine.

Sounds like a nice setup. Who did you order the springs from and do you have the part number?
:bravo:

Lets see a PIC.
You have reverse rate with 3" front and only 1.25 rear?

2/1 Lift

I went with Fox 2.0 which come set at 2" for the front and then got some cornfed spacers for the rear to go with the 0-1" lift shock option. I have about 7k on the setup and like the ride. They are more than the billies but are able to be rebuilt. As for ride quality the fox shocks valving is linear vs the billies valving is digressive.

Bilsteins are your best bet and no reason you can't do that (above). Jump on a Bilstein Black Friday deal!

You can spend more and get more, but the ladies won't be asking what kind of shocks you have.

Really tough to see (I have yet to take any pics at all on the good camera)... But top pic is (only) 5100s front & back, front set at 1.75... Bottom pic is 1 inch rear Cornfed spacers and Spidertrax wheel spacers added as well.

1.75 front setting and nothing in the rear gave me dead level fenders, and approx 1/4 to 1/2 inch negative frame rake. I started out with almost 3 full inches of rake tho from front to back in all stock trim.

As it sits now (many thanks to codyHTX for following his set-up), with the rear spacers, she sits at just that hint of a meaner look than stock Runners, but not screaming off-road killer. No more squatty front end, but still some rake in there for loads.

I'll probably go back someday and redo the back with no spacers and actual spring swap-outs... But for now, extremely happy with the results. All that's left for the near-term is the aluminum RCI front skid and I'm calling it quits for awhile...

I'll post up quality pics for people to look at see phases/results here within a few weeks.
