New 4Runner Owner

New to the forum as I just bought a 2014 4Runner TE Super White (I get it tomorrow off the trailer). I sold my 2010 Tundra Rock Warrior to get the 4runner and hoping I made the right decision

I've been lurking for a couple weeks and reading up on all the fun stuff everyone is doing and getting a lot of ideas. I know a few of the first thinks I'm going to do...

1) New tires (can't stand the ones it comes with). I think I am going to go with Toyo Open Country A/T II (I had MTs on my tundra and loved them).

2) I want to get black rims to contrast the super white.

3) Gobi Stealth roof rack

My questions are...

1) What size tires should I go with. Stock is obviously 265/70R17 but should I go bigger? What can I get away with, without lifting right away. I saw a thread that had the chart saying 275/70R17 should be fine stock.

2) I see a lot of owners doing the OME 3" lift. Is this something I should do ASAP before buying new rims and tires or can it wait till I can replenish some funds? Being new to the 4runner and really offroading, I'm not exactly sure of the major benefits to the lift beyond making it look bad ass

Welcome to the forum. You will like your 4Runner every time you fill it up compared to the Tundra RW. I have the Toyo OC AT2 in stock size on my SR5 and like them a lot. 275/70 will work just fine on your TE. The lift can wait if you need to restock the bank account. These vehicles work just fine with the stock suspension anyway.

Question 1: Follow this chart and you will be fine.

Question 2: I would wait on the lift. A stock 4Runner will take you a lot further than you think. May as well save some money while you do some research and figure out what's best for you.

Thanks for the info! It appears the Open Country AT II is not made in a 275/70R17 configuration so I will be sticking with the stock size.

Let the fun begin! It's going to be a long night waiting for the new toy to arrive tomorrow
