New 4Runner owner!

Hey everyone - I just moved from being a Corvette owner (2002 Z06) to my new 2006 4Runner. I got a new 2006 4x4 V8 Sport Edition this weekend. I wanted to introduce myself to the forum and ask what you all recommend as first mods (air, exhaust, etc) to the car. I don't know much about these things so I will be studying this forum often... ;)

Welcome to the Family! You will be able to find just about any mod if you use the search, even "first mod".

Welcome to the boards. First mods depend on what you're looking for from your truck. A lot of people change out the rubber as it's probably the weakest link.

I'm still on the stock rubber at 26K but I guess I don't drive like an Indy car driver

Welcome to the board! Do you plan on doing a lot of offroading? I recommend switching the stock Dunlops for a better tire. You can also put on dual exhuast. There are many threads discussing these mods.

Welcome....

I sold my 03 cobra vert for my 4runner.....

I still have my 03 Cobra vert....fast !!! & fun !!! I might get rid of it this year though , I don't get the chance to drive it much , but it is fun to have .

Bluemotev, welcome to the boards and congrat's on the new 4R.

Welcome aboard! :D

The first mod depends on what you want to do and what you want your T4R to say about you.

After you read thru some of the posts here I'm sure you'll have plenty of ideas.

Thanks for tips guys! I'll read through the posts and see what I should do.

On a sort of different note, I have that 10 speaker JBL synthesis stereo - anyone expirement with upgrading that to factory Navi?

Welcome! As others have said, the mods will depend on what you want out of your vehicle, and of course, your budget. As for me, I went with the following upgrades for my 06 Sport, which currently has 900 miles on it! I added the HID headlights with a XenonDepot kit, a TRD replacement air filter, and a Borla catback exhaust system. Next on my list is leather for the interior (classic soft trim) and an in-dash navigation system, most likely one of the new Eclipse models. Get ready for some fun with yours, I'm addicted already!

Navigation installs. It's a bit long.

For me first mods will be HIDs and bull bar.

Do you post on svtperformance.com by chance?

:D

.....welcome!!!....enjoy your new addiction....is there an T4R annonymous group forum for out of control addicts?.....(or is this it?)....lol.....HAVE FUN!!!!!:D

i know this is probably amply covered in the search, but what are people's complaints about the stock sport Dunlop rubber?

they seem fine for on-road driving...get a little light in puddles, but nothing bad (esp not in 4wd).

the only thing i want to do is flip the white lettering to the inside :)

I've got two more questions - did you guys buy the warranty from the dealer? The one I got was written through Fidelity / JM&A - is that who your guys are through? Is this the factory Toyota extended warranty or an aftermarket on they sold me?

Also, the dealer said they could install Nav for me (for over $2000) but how do I know if its the JBL Synthesis Nav Unit that comes with the 2006? Anyone have the part number for that?

Thanks again

I know you might be set on stock...but I see nice double-DIN Eclipse touchscreen navs on ebay for reasonable prices. One 1-yr old unit I saw recently went for $855 with antenna, etc.

Your warranty sounds like it's through a third party--Fidelity, sounds like the investment firm. The one from Toyota comes from Toyota Financial Services, depending on which one you get, there's Platinum and I think Gold. I bought the warranty for my truck, cheap insurance is the way I see it. Toyotas are very reliable mechanically and I doubt I'll need it, but with all the advance electronics, I'll play it safe. My dealer offers a money back guarantee if I don't use it. Free loan to the dealer for now. ;):

Toyota does not offer the JBL Synthesis system (10 speakers) with the factory navigation system for 2006. JBL Synthesis and navigation were only on the 2003-04 models. They were the older units with the seperate DVD-ROM unit. The button on the lower left corner is gray, instead black like newer all-in-one head units.

Alright, well I figured out the warranty... Turns out in some states, you cannot buy Toyota financial warranty. From the toyota financial web page:

"Programs are not available through Toyota Financial Services (TFS) in AL, FL, GA, NC, SC or HA. In these states programs may be available through other providers but terms will differ from TFS programs. Please see your local Toyota dealer in those states for further details. "

If you go to the Southeast toyota finance page, you will see that JM&A is the factory warranty...

I see... in the Gulf Coast region Toyota has an agreement in place with its distributor and I believe it's also the region where side/curtain airbags are hard to find. Those darn distributors! But good to know that JM&A IS the factory warranty for you.
