Got a new to me 1989 SR5 4Runner with 180K V6. Love it and just what I wanted. The rear window motor will run but the window doesn't move. I was thinking it was a gear but after looking at the pics of the new motors online I don't see any gears or anything. I would think if the motor was dead you wouldn't hear it but maybe I am wrong. The only other issue so far is the ebrake cable doesn't work and the idle was a little funny. It was skipping occasionally when I test drove it so I was thinking plugs and wires, etc. but today I drove it for a short distance and no skipping though for a few minutes the idle climbed and dropped when sitting at a stop sign. Second trip no issues with the idle. It has been to the beach twice with the previous owner but before that sat since 2008 so I attribute some of this to just sitting around. Oh and the gas gauge doesn't work though it had a new pump put in it. They just didn't fix the sending unit because the guy was stranded and they where trying to get him going again I guess. Anyway, I haven't pulled the back window apart I am just going off what the guy I bought it off said. I have been working on walking again since getting hit by a car so not a lot of mobility right now. Thanks for any help. I can't wait to get the window down so I can take the top off and enjoy the nice weather.

If you take the cover off the inside of your tailgate you can get a good look at whats going on in there. You can activate the motor with a spare battery (switch neg and pos to go up or down). I spent a while trying to figure mine out once but all it turned out to be was a bad connection at the switch.

Make sure everything is tight! The guys i bought my 4runner from, they were messing around cause it didn't work and they left something loose here and there. If the arms/ cranks / or gears aren't tight they will slip. Lemme know if that worked?
